Hey, just want to say that I do understand your frunstration, guys when you complain about job postings not having clarity for the company’s hiring policies. I agree that most of the job posting s are vague in terms of location and are a lottery.

It takes forever to figure out it a company is hiring remotely or not. Sometimes I explore all my resources and I can’t figure it out at all. As a result some potential awesome job opportunities are left out. But you never know if they were actually open for international applicants or now until you actually tried submitting your application.

I see this problem a lot in companies that using Greenhouse services to manage their job listings. Today I couldn’t stand it anymore. I found prettry cool job postings by Techstars but I couldn’t find any proof for if they are hiring outsite their office locations. So I complained in Twitter about it. Let’s see if they respond. As you know, folks, whenever I signup for a new service, I always check out the company’s careers page. But what you don’t know is that sometimes I come back to those career pages after some time.

This happed with Skillsare last November and they were only hiring within US locations only so you ended up never hearing about them from me. But when I checked yesterday, things had changed for them and they have a lot of roles open with no specific location and 2 that are marked with Anywhere.

I’m so happy I stopped by because I like and use Skillshare and I learned a lot from their courses. Hopefully this is not a mistake of an intern Recruiter who forgot to state the location. 😆 Hurry up to check out their open positions and apply!

About 90% of all startups fail according to Forbes. So working for a startup is extremely risky especially when you have a family to provide for.
That’s why startups are willing to offer very generous terms even for remote international team members.

The average time an employee spends in a company is about 2.5 years. How can you ensure the startup you are hired to work for doesn’t fail within your estimate 2.5-year term with them?

The way I do it, I make sure the startup is funded, has got existing user-base, and is making at least as much revenue to at least cover its own operational spendings. Here in my channel I try to specify if startup are funded.

What does funding mean for a startup? Right, it means more open positions, more resources for marketing, design and more chance for them to survive. So if you decide to go for a job at a startup, make sure they have been funded and have got money to maintain the work on their work for at least 2-3 upcoming years.

And today is for one of this kind of startups - Sourcegraph. They are a late-stage startup and they were $125M Series D on $2.6B valuation for universal code search tool last summer. I somehow missed their series D announcement but I’m glad I found it now because they are still hiring and they have got existing team members in St.Petersburg, Russia too.

Circle.so raised $24.7 million in series A led by Tiger Global earlier in December, this led to new roles that they've opened up on their careers pages. They are building a platfom that they themselves describe as Shopify for creator/brand-led communities.

They are now a fully remote team of 40 (and growing!) based in the U.S., Colombia, Portugal, India, Argentina, Slovenia, and other countries. We have a preference for candidates in U.S. and European timezones. They do have a preference for candidates in U.S. and European timezones for these roles.

It hasn’t been long since Facebook officially coined the term “metaverse” and it is officially a new buzzword for the next coule of years and lots of companies have since adopted the term for their marketing strategies. Well, I’m not surprized since this shit sells and it sells well.

One of the market segments where “metaverse” term is applicable is remote work, online communication, remote work spaces, remote work infrastructure. So today I would like to introduce Gather. They are building a “metaverse” virtual office that looks fun. I’ve been able to use it with an actual team of people and it is super cool.

They raised $26M in Series A back in March of 2021 and 50M in Series B in November! A whopping total of $76M within several months. Boy, appearently the “metaverse” buzzword indeed sells well! They intend to use the funds to continue to expand operations and its business reach.

To quote their remote work policy Talent is everywhere but opportunity is not. Your job often dictates where you live - but this isn't the case at Gather. This is the way to go, this is the right future I support and I’m really happy to promote them.

Today I spent some time reading a scientific essay on boredom written by one of my former colleagues. What can be more boring than reading an essay on boredom?! Just kidding, the essay turned out to be more fun than I anticipated.

But to answer my question. What can seem to be more boring than the appearance of an essay on boredom? Right, it is developing and testing payment methods.

Similarly to the boredom essay, I find testing payment methods very entertaining. I have got some experience testing Stripe integration for startup products and I find it increadibly amusing as it keeps me thinking and inquiring and descoving new ways I didn’t concider earlier. It is a constant Tom and Jerry game for me.

One of the most frequent questions about remote work with international companies is the one about time zones. Nobody wants you to work night shifts. It is not healthy, it is not productive and you can’t do it long term. So there are three cases possible:

- The company is requiring that a team member ensures a 3-4h overlap during week days. And this is the most common one.
- The company is hiring specifically in your time zone to ensure service coverage while the other part of the team is asleep. This is very common for support and engineering roles. This waythey ensure there is always someone to monitor the system and to react in case of an emergency.
- The company minimized direct communication and emprace asynchronous communication. This is quite rare but it does exit.

I’ve been experimenting with Zettlekasten note-taking method and I’ve been enjoying it. I’ve tried tools like Obsidian, RoamResearch, Notion, Goodnotes. I even attempted to apply for a QA role at Goodnotes last summer.

Today I ran into RemNote, they offer a similar note-taking tool for as they say “thinking and learning”. It is an MIT startup with an initial seed round of 2.8M investment in September 2021.

They are hiring remotely, they are a team of 14 people. It is great opprotunity to get experience working at a small startup, close to the founders and decision makers — a valuable experience that you will never get at a large company. Especially valuable if you are planning to be a founder yourself in the future.

I’m looking into different ways to connect with the Remote Ever After channel. I’d like to create a floor for our group to discuss things that matter, network, and exchange experiences. As I was looking into Kumospace, I figured they are fully remote and are hiring globally. So today is for Kumospace. I personally like Gather more, it is more pleasant for hte eye and they have avatars which I genuinly enjoy creating and dressing up.

Kumospace though appears to be more popular and seems like they are having a better marketing campaign and connections within the tech companies as they are listing companies liek Google, Amazon, and Spotify as their customers. They raised 3M in seed round last year and they’ve got strong ambition to grow and add mroe exciting features. They operate in US Estern Time so when you are interviewing make sure you clarify the overlap that they require.

As a contractor, I need to take care of my own health insurance. I’ve been looking into various options. My initial need was to get the coverage during my international travels as I have some basic public healthcare while I’m in Russia but that lost importance for me personally since I haven’t been able to travel internationally.

But on the larger scope, companies started hiring internationally more thanks to the pandemic and hence there is an ask for better corporate benefits even for international contractors. Insurance companies have sensed the demand and came up new international offers.

So today is for SafetyWing. They are a YC W18 banch participants, raised a $12M Series A round in 2021 and they are hiring for several fully remote jobs. Note that all the roles require availability 8-11AM PST.
