⚠️ NEW IN: The cryptocurrency industry experienced its most active six-month period for security incidents on record during the first half of 2026, with 212 reported breaches resulting in losses exceeding $1.1 billion.

Blockaid’s latest research found that social engineering accounted for approximately 74% of total losses, highlighting a significant shift away from smart contract exploits toward attacks involving compromised credentials, phishing campaigns, and stolen private keys.

The findings suggest that user security and operational security have become the industry’s largest attack surface.

Coinbase urges users to ignore the letters, avoid scanning any QR codes, and never share wallet recovery phrases or transfer funds at someone else’s request.

⚠️ NEW IN: COLDCARD Issues Emergency Warning After Critical Seed Generation Flaw

Coinkite has disclosed a serious vulnerability affecting COLDCARD Mk3 hardware wallets that generated recovery seeds using firmware versions 4.0.1 through 4.1.9.

According to the company, a flaw in the device’s entropy generation significantly reduced the randomness used when creating seed phrases, making certain private keys potentially predictable through brute force.

The disclosure follows reports that attackers drained approximately 594 BTC (around $38 million) from roughly 500 wallets linked to the vulnerable devices.

Users who created their seed on an affected Mk3 are strongly advised to generate a brand-new wallet and transfer all funds immediately. Mk4, Mk5 and COLDCARD Q devices do not appear to be impacted.
