Assalāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh,

This is a reminder page for myself to look back on. If you benefit from it, Alḥamdulillāh. If not, please remember me in your du'ā's.

Tightening our grip on the things that we cannot control only fuels feelings of helplessness and despair.

Always choose to focus on what is within your control. That’s how you build resilience and start making positive changes, no matter the chaos around you.

This dunya (worldly life) holds no value to The One Who created it, so it shouldn’t hold any value to you either.

This Dunya is a temporary journey from Allāh, for Allāh and eventually back to Allāh!

Learn to forgive yourself for your mistakes, past and present. Expecting perfection from yourself isn't realistic - you are, after all, Insān, and only Allāh is perfect. If it necessitates tauba, reach out to Allāh. If you need to make amends, reach out to people.

Whatever it takes to heal and move forward, do it, provided that it's within the framework of Sharīʿa. Sometimes our own expectations of ourselves is what affects us most mentally - through anxiety, depression and overthinking. Growth happens through mistakes - embrace it.

هل نسيت ان الله يفرح بتوبتك؟
Have you forgotten that Allāh rejoices with your repentance?

Male Masculinity

What is a Qawwām?

When discussing prophetic masculinity, one word that is often referred to is Qawwām; usually translated as protector, maintainer, or guardian.

Allāh says in the Qur'ān: Men are the Qawwām of women. And by extension the rest of the family.

But what does a qawwām really mean in a practical sense?

Simply put a Qawwām is someone who takes care of those under his wing spiritually, physically, mentally and financially.

Let’s look at each of these:

1. Physically: His presence is safety. He doesn’t harm them. When he is around his family, they feel safe and secure even when the situation is precarious. This doesn’t mean he needs to be 6’5 with 20-inch biceps, it could mean that he takes the relevant precautions to make sure his family is safe, e.g. buying a house in a safe neighbourhood and having adequate security measures.

2. Spiritually: Allāh says “O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your own families from a Fire whose fuel is mankind and stones.” A qawwam takes an active role in nurturing the spiritual health of those under his care, including women; by facilitating opportunities for ʿIbādah and to study the Deen.

3. Mentally: A qawwām is a safe space for his family mentally - they don’t live in fear of him rather they cherish him. He keeps an eye on their mental state and just as he makes sure that they’re physically healthy, he ensures they’re mentally okay too.

4. Financially: He provides whatever is needed and within reason, be it food, accommodation and all the amenities. Whatever it takes to create an optimum environment at home for the family to flourish.

Note, no man will fulfil all of these categories perfectly except our Prophet ﷺ, but the point is that a God-conscious man will endeavour to fulfil these to the best of his abilities.

A message to my brothers, you might be put off by this ideal list as such a tall order, but I highly encourage each of you to work on yourselves.

A good woman will recognise a man who constantly strives to be good, even if he falls short. But not trying at all is the biggest loss. Society is in desperate need for good men.

‏قاعدة :
لا شيء يستحق الحزن والندم في حياتك ، سوى تقصيرك في طاعة الله ﷻ..

Rule:

Nothing in your life is worth being sad/regretful over, except for your deficiencies in your obedience to
Allāh ﷻ.
Du'ā' is about showing weakness in front of Allāh and trusting Him with our need. Sometimes we cry so much we are lost for words. Keep crying. Your tears tell a thousand stories. A baby cries without words and the mother is quick to fulfil its needs. Allāh's love is greater.
