The Great Android Stack Reset: Mobile System Design History
https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/1vuaimm/the_great_android_stack_reset_mobile_system/
<!-- SC_OFF -->Android, the last to arrive at the declarative UI party, took its time, until finally reaching a stable solution. Here's a rundown of the major changes in the Android System Design across the eras. I was away from Android for 7 years and came home to a totally strange place. This is my attempt to make sense of what happened while I was gone - how the stack reset four times (Activities -> MVP/RxJava -> Architecture Components -> Compose) and why each lurch happened. Written for interview prep but the history stands on its own. <!-- SC_ON --> submitted by /u/Super-Performance-86 (https://www.reddit.com/user/Super-Performance-86)

Embedding models benchmark for code duplication detection
https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/1vud8h6/embedding_models_benchmark_for_code_duplication/
<!-- SC_OFF -->For those who prefer to read the code instead of text, source code is available on GitHub (https://github.com/rafal-qa/embedding-benchmark). Relying only on model specification or common benchmarks, we can't predict how it would perform in a specific use case like detecting duplicated code. Focused evaluation revealed, for example, that a general-purpose model can be better than dedicated for code. Or that small model can outperform big providers. <!-- SC_ON --> submitted by /u/rafal-kochanowski (https://www.reddit.com/user/rafal-kochanowski)

Running a Java Spring Boot app on a 512 MB VPS with lightweight monitoring
https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/1vxl0w4/running_a_java_spring_boot_app_on_a_512_mb_vps/
<!-- SC_OFF -->I wanted to see how a fairly representative Java Spring Boot application behaves on a very small VPS, especially the difference between configured heap and actual JVM process memory. The test app uses Spring Boot 3.5.x, Spring MVC, JPA/Hibernate, H2, embedded Tomcat, Actuator, scheduled work, and outbound HTTP. I also kept lightweight monitoring on the same machine. The original 256 MB configuration was too tight. With 512 MB RAM + 256 MB swap, the application completed the test reliably. Full setup and measurements are in the linked article. Since then I’ve also managed to get the same application working on a 256 MB VPS with swap using JDK 25 Compact Object Headers and tighter JVM settings. I’m preparing that as a separate follow-up experiment. <!-- SC_ON --> submitted by /u/fykup (https://www.reddit.com/user/fykup)
