Kernel regression is the cause of slowness some of us are experiencing

Quote from Grapheneos:

"Android 17 QPR1 was released for Pixels on September 15. It has a regression in the Pixel kernel driver tree causing stuttering, lag and outright freezes under memory pressure."

GrapheneOS: Android 17 QPR1 was released for Pixels on September 15. It has a regression in the Pixel kernel driver tree causing stuttering, lag and outright freezes under memory pressure. It impacts GrapheneOS too since we updated the firmware/drivers but we fixed it for our release today.

You should verify your NFC security settings after the latest update. Previously set to require the phone to be unlocked to access NFC, after update this setting was off

Anecdotally, I have 3 phones in my circle of people that previously had the setting Require Device Unlock on.

After the latest update this setting was set to off.

For the life of me I can´t figure out whey they would change this setting. it is a huge security risk. Someone with a tap to pay scanner can just walk right by you and you´ll have a charge go through.

EDIT So it looks like it is a Pixel thing from reading the comments. Also, it seems that even though this setting was setting to off it was still requiring the phone to be unlocked to access NFC. So now my question becomes if the phone is always required to be unlocked to access NFC regardless of this setting, what function does this setting perform?

Cool ways to use your Android tablet? (as an Android newcomer)

Hi everyone! I recently ordered a Galaxy tab S11, coming from an iPad Air and iPhone owner. I'm completely new to the ecosystem and want to catch up on the interesting ways to use an Android device. I'm excited for more freedom compared to iPadOS.

So far I'm already planning on using it for Krita and interested to see how I can use Blender and Godot on it. I'm also interested in emulation and sideloading. I just wanted some guidance and a good introduction to the ecosystem as a first-timer!

S.Korea’s #1 Carrier (SKT) completely broke VoLTE on my brand new phone. Senior manager doesn't even know what an 'ODH' profile is and forced me to visit a physical store for a 1-minute database update Lol.

(Note to mods: This is NOT a tech support request. I already know the technical solution. This is a discussion-promoting post about carrier provisioning policies and anti-consumer behavior.)

Hey guys, I wanted to share a ridiculous experience I’m currently having with SK Telecom (SKT), the largest mobile carrier in South Korea.
I am using a domestic budget OMD (unlocked) smartphone. This is a brand new phone that I bought less than a month ago. Recently, I noticed that my network connection drops from LTE (HD Voice) to 3G whenever I make a call or send a text message. I immediately recognized that this was a standard VoLTE provisioning issue.
To fix this, the carrier’s backend device profile needs to be changed from the default 'ODH1' to 'OMD Handset LTE_VoLTE (ODH3)'. This is a basic, 1-minute remote database update that any Tier 1 carrier support team should know how to do.
However, for the last 3 consecutive days, SKT’s 114 Technical Support and even their senior customer service manager have shown absolute incompetence. They completely ignored my specific request to change the profile to ODH3. Instead, they kept repeating the same meaningless script: "We will resend a new network signal to your device."
Today, the senior manager basically gave up and told me to "physically visit an offline flagship store (smartphone customer center)" because they claim it cannot be done remotely. They are refusing to do a simple remote database update and are forcing the consumer to waste time traveling to a store for a problem caused by their own system, completely ruining the experience of my brand new phone.
It’s mind-blowing that a leading 5G telecommunications company in South Korea doesn’t even understand how OMD VoLTE profiles work on their own network and actively deceives tech-literate customers just to avoid doing their job.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of blatant carrier ignorance regarding VoLTE provisioning? What do you guys think about this ridiculous carrier behavior?
