Made a robust folders transfer app for Android via ADB, just transferred 500+ GB of files

Just sharing a Python app I developed with agentic AI (not vibe coded, I am a very experienced OSS Python and Android dev) to transfer large files/folders recursively robustly via ADB (over USB or WiFi depending on what your phone supports): https://github.com/lrq3000/arft

The app supports auto retrying, resuming on interruption, atomic operations (ie, corrupted files will get rollbacked and redownloaded on next run), checking based on file size, checking on checksum, and can be used for incremental updates. It also works if you have already downloaded partially a folder and want to update it with new files (ie, a new incremental backup) or if you want to check whether all your files are not corrupted.

It's a commandline app for now but if someone is interested I may make a simple GUI and a pyInstaller binary.


It's opensource under MIT License like almost everything I make.

For the technically inclined, ADB is used here instead of other protocols because it is both the fastest and the most reliable compared to MTP (the protocol for standard Android file transfer over USB - which is notoriously buggy with large files or large folders, so you end up having to break down your transfer manually into very small chunks of a couple GB at once, here arft is set up and forget it, it takes care of retrying and everything), FTP (much slower as it is bounded to LAN speed but it supports any filesize theoretically), bluetooth (same), http (worst of all in my own tests).

Alternatives include adb-bettersync and ADB Explorer but they are less focused or fail on the task of copying a big folder/file.

I am posting here as this is a very common issue and somehow I was surprised that as of 2026 I did not find any other (opensourced) reliable solution for large folders/files transfer on Android.

Not the popular ones, but these Galaxy features are useful

I’ve been playing around with Audio Eraser and it’s surprisingly useful — you can clean up background noise in videos after filming. Like wind, people talking, random sounds — it just isolates your voice way better. Super helpful if you film outside or in busy places.

Also tried Auto Trim and it’s lowkey underrated. It takes a long video and automatically cuts it into short highlight clips. I tested it on a random 2–3 min clip and it pulled out the most “usable” moments without me doing anything.

Not the flashy features everyone talks about, but honestly these are the ones I keep using.

I’ve had a chance to try some of these features early, so just sharing what stood out.

Facebook is illegally collecting your data through a system-level service pre-installed on most Android phones that you cannot uninstall and never consented to.

Facebook pays manufacturers like Samsung and Xiaomi billions to embed itself as a system app with elevated privileges. There's no uninstall button, only "Disable." Even disabled, background services like com.facebook.appmanager still run. I rooted my phone and deleted it. It reinstalled itself through a hidden system-level installer. The only real fix is root access and manually removing it from /system/priv-app/.

Now the uncomfortable part. Facebook is a US company. Under FISA 702 and the CLOUD Act, US agencies can compel them to hand over data on anyone, anywhere, without a warrant. This system-level service sits on billions of devices in every country on earth. You never consented to it. No opt-in, no EULA, nothing. It's just there because your phone manufacturer got paid.

To remove it you need root. Delete Facebook packages from /system/priv-app/, or flash a clean ROM like GrapheneOS. If you can't root, use NetGuard to block Facebook from reaching the network. The fact that any of this is necessary on a phone you paid for is the actual problem.

Is there anything worse than Android's MTP file transfer?

It's slow. It doesn't allow you to open uncompressed files on your PC. It doesn't allow you to modify file names. It also doesn't usually make it easy to transfer files from one system to another. For example, I have several smartphones, all with the same music. So, if I add new songs, transferring them to the other phones is a nightmare. I usually have to create a folder in Windows and then transfer the songs from there.



It's not like having an external hard drive, which is incredibly easy to use on a standard operating system. Transferring files on Android is a real pain on your PC compared to a USB drive or external hard drive.



What happens if you need to transfer large amounts of data and you don't have enough space on your PC because your hard drive is full? You're out of luck, since copying files between different phones via MTP is problematic. It's more efficient to delete files from one phone and transfer them from another.



Another problem is that it crashes very quickly. If you transfer videos, it won't even let you browse other folders. Nor will it let you copy or paste other files until the first one finishes. Sometimes I've had the problem of not being able to copy or the remaining time queue closing because a file has a strange name that it can't read, or because I'm running out of space. But it doesn't warn you about that. It also doesn't show the write speed for the files.



I don't understand how in 2026 Google is still using this method to share files from a PC; it's completely outdated. I seem to recall it became popular with the boom in digital cameras years ago. But it's now a totally obsolete protocol.
