Germany ‘Cowardly Hiding’ Over WWII Compensation – Poland
Germany is acting in a “cowardly” way by refusing to discuss reparations to Warsaw for the damage caused by the Nazi occupation during World War II, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk has claimed.
“On the one hand, we have the lack of judicial recourse on the part of the [Polish] victims, on the other hand, the lack of willingness by the Germans to begin talks on this matter,” Mularczyk complained in an interview with PAP news agency on Wednesday.
Berlin is “cowardly hiding behind its judicial immunity,” he added, insisting that “it’s a schizophrenic situation on the part of Germany, which considers itself a law-abiding, democratic state that respects human rights.”
Mularczyk, who visited Berlin earlier this week, said his trip was “an act of moral pressure on German politicians, who think that the issue [of reparations] has long been settled.”

'Salt Bae' Parody Sees Vietnam Activist Jailed For 5 Years
Vietnamese political activist Bui Tuan Lam was sentenced to five years in jail over uploading a video in 2021 where he mimicked the gestures of the high-end London-based restaurateur known as Salt Bae.
The man, a noodle vendor himself, posted said parody after a controversy erupted involving a government minister, who was filmed eating a $2,000 gold leaf-covered steak in a Salt Bae restaurant.
The indictment accused Bui Tuan Lam of posting 19 videos on Facebook and 25 on YouTube which "affected the confidence of the people in the leadership of the state".

Police arrested the son of the Nakano city assembly speaker on Friday after he had gone on a wild shooting and stabbing spree killing four people, including two police officers and two women.
Masanori Aoki reportedly told eye witnesses he killed his first victim with a 30cm blade “because I wanted to” before stabbing an older woman - who was only found dead early Friday - before barricading himself in his father’s home with his mother and aunt.
During the standoff with police the suspect, who held multiple firearm licenses, reportedly opened fire with a hunting rifle.

Net migration to the United Kingdom hit a record high of 606,000 in 2022 - 20% up from the previous year - despite the pledge made by Prime Minister Rishi to curb legal migration numbers after he took office in October, official estimates from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have shown.
The influx of legal migrants is partly driven by the British government’s visa scheme for Ukrainian refugees, as well as people migrating to Britain for reasons of employment or education.
Legal migration was a primary issue in the UK’s 2016 Brexit referendum in which a majority voted to leave the EU and take control of Britain’s own borders, as many voters said at the time. Net migration to the UK in 2015 was 329,000 – just above half of the 2022 tally.

A 48-year-old man, reportedly with a Greek surname, told interrogators he thought it was a wedding cortege when he rushed towards Scholz getting out of his limousine on the runway, firmly shook his hand, pressed the Chancellor to his chest and tried to hug him.
Although the suspect’s car numbers were not in the database, it was somehow allowed into the closed area of the airport along with the rest of the convoy.

An investigation has been launched after a Mississippi cop shot a black 11-year-old boy while responding to his call to help his mum during a domestic disturbance incident last Saturday.
Indianola officer Greg Capers “had his guns blazing” as he arrived according to Carlos Moore, the attorney for Aderrien Murry’s family, and has now been placed on paid administrative leave.
Aderrien Murry suffered a collapsed lung, lacerated liver and fractured ribs from the incident after he had reportedly emerged from a bedroom with his hands raised.
