The future doesn’t just “happen”, not with these people:

What will governance look like in 2050?

That is what the World Economic Forum (WEF) asked at a recent meeting in Abu Dhabi that focused on the future of governance under three potential scenarios arising from the ongoing information revolution. With that revolution already marginalizing some countries and communities – and creating new opportunities for others – the question could hardly be more timely.

The first scenario that participants considered is a world ruled by so-called “megacities,” where governance is administered largely by major urban agglomerations. The second possibility is a world in which strong central governments use big data to fortify their control. And, in the third scenario, central governments are fundamentally weak, with markets – and the enterprises that dominate them – providing almost all services.

The first of the 3 scenarios envisioned by the WEF for 2050 is e1984 world. Covid has certainly helped them push things this way - especially in the “trust department. Theme here - security is valued over privacy:

“In this imaginary future called e1984, the promise of big data has been realized. The trust that citizens place in their government allows for the harvest and analysis of big data. Governments effectively and efficiently assess citizen behaviour, values and interests, and use that information to advance their policies and services.

As efficiency and satisfaction rise, citizens are increasingly complacent and lack the motivation to be personally involved in traditional political institutions.

e1984 is a familiar picture of a dystopian world, but with a twist: can big data lead to better policies? Will citizens let their data speak for them? How would societal values change in a world of ubiquitous surveillance?”

The 2nd of 3 scenarios envisioned by the WEF for 2050 is Gated Community Government. This is the merger of public and private sectors, where essentially the government is run by the private sector. Again, COVID is helping push this agenda through. Think Starbucks partnering with Washington state to distribute the vaccine, among many other private companies volunteering similar type “aide” to the govn’t. STAKEHOLDER CAPITALISM:

“Imagine a scenario in which inefficient governments coupled with the efficient privatization of core services persuaded people to opt for a “user pays” system. Roads, hospitals, streets, lighting, schools – all these services are entirely managed by private companies. People value personal choice over national or ethnic identities... Political power now rests with individuals and private sector organizations. Individual responsibility and choice prevail. The private sector is the main provider of collective services.”

The last scenario of the 3 scenarios envisioned by the WEF is City-State government. This is connected to the Wildlands Project. They *want* people in urban SMART city centers. These 3 scenarios are simultaneously being pushed further all via the Trojan horse of COVID, pgs 79-80:

“City State is a world in which authority is decentralized to the city level and pragmatism trumps idealism in addressing collective issues...

Cities collaborate on local problems: Cities, rather than nations, are centres of innovation
as the scale of policy- making and service delivery allows for rapid and responsive change. Collaboration between cities and mega regions on policies and best practices also shapes selected global issues.

This scenario also sees a widening of the urban-rural divide. Rural and semi- rural areas will lose influence along with revenue – the power of the purse.
