Intuitive Machines, an American private space company, successfully landed its lunar lander Odysseus on the Moon on February 22, 2024.
Intuitive is the first company to land a private spacecraft on the Moon.
Nova-C lunar lander/Odysseus, developed in the US, touched the Moon since the Surveyor 7 spacecraft in 1968.
It is also the first American-developed lander to land on the Moon since Apollo 17's lunar module "Challenger" in 1972.
The mission faced delays due to communication problems, but a faint signal from Odysseus confirmed its successful landing.
The lander's journey began from Cape Canaveral aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and traveled over 621,000 miles before entering lunar orbit.
