A man was shot and killed outside a donut shop in a Van Nuys strip mall early Saturday morning in what police are calling a targeted attack. LAPD says the victim was standing by his car after midnight when two suspects approached and opened fire, then fled in a vehicle. The victim died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Pope Francis died at the age of 88 after experiencing a number of health issues in recent years. As pope, the man previously known as Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio chose to name himself after Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of Italy, known for his simplicity and humanity.
