A cowboy rode into town and stopped at a saloon for a drink. Unfortunately, the locals always had a habit of picking on strangers. گاوچراني وارد شهر شد و براي نوشيدن چيزي ، كنار يك مهمان‌خانه ايستاد . بدبختانه ، كساني كه در آن شهر زندگي مي‌كردند عادت بدي داشتند كه سر به سر غريبه‌ها مي‌گذاشتند . وقتي او ( گاوچران ) نوشيدني‌اش را تمام كرد ، متوجه شد كه اسبش دزديده شده استاو به كافه برگشت ، و ماهرانه اسلحه‌ اش را در آورد و سمت بالا گرفت و بالاي سرش گرفت بدون هيچ نگاهي به سقف يه گلوله شليك كرد . او با تعجب و خيلي مقتدرانه فرياد زد : « كدام يك از شما آدم‌هاي بد اسب منو دزديده؟!؟! » كسي پاسخي نداد . « بسيار خوب ، من يك آب جو ديگه ميخورم ، و تا وقتي آن را تمام مي‌كنم اسبم برنگردد ، كاري را كه در تگزاس انجام دادم انجام مي‌دهم ! و دوست ندارم آن كاري رو كه در تگزاس انجام دادم رو انجام بدم! » بعضي از افراد خودشون جمع و جور كردن . آن مرد ، بر طبق حرفش ، آب جو ديگري نوشيد، بيرون رفت ، و اسبش به سرجايش برگشته بود . اسبش رو زين كرد و به سمت خارج از شهر رفت . كافه چي به آرامي از كافه بيرون آمد و پرسيد : هي رفيق قبل از اينكه بري بگو ، در تگزاس چه اتفاقي افتاد ؟ گاوچران برگشت و گفت : مجبور شدم پیاده برم خونه.

اعداد اصلی و ترتیبی
Ordinal and cardinal numbers
اعداد اصلی (cardinal) همان اعداد معمولی هستند.
اعداد ترتیبی (Ordinal) اعدادی مانند اول، دوم، سوم، و .... هستند. به غیر از چند استثناء برای ساختن عدد ترتیبی به آخر عدد th اضافه می‌‌‌‌كنیم. (در عدد یك از st – در عدد دو از nd و در عدد 3 از rd استفاده می‌شود.)

برای بیان اعداد كسری معمولا صورت كسر را معمولی و مخرج كسر را ترتیبی می‌خوانیم:

2/10 or 0.2 = two-tenths         
¼ = one-quarter (British) or one-fourth (American)

 گاهی اوقات ممكن است از كلمه‌ی over  به معنای روی هم استفاده شود. مثلا برای 8/2 گفته شود: eight over two . (بیشتر در انگلیسی بریتانیا)
2. اعداد اعشاری
در اعداد اعشاری معمولا به جای ممیز از كلمه‌ی point استفاده می‌شود و به جای عدد صفر از zero یا naught استتفاده می‌شود و اعداد بعد از ممیز، یكی یكی خوانده می‌شوند. ( ممكن است در گفتارهای غیر رسمی به جای صفر o گفته شود)
0 .002 = "point zero zero two", "point o o two", "nought point zero zero two", etc.
0.5 = naught point five (US: zero point five)
3.375 = three point three seven five
99.3 = ninety- nine point three
13.75 = thirteen point seven five
3.1416 = three point one four one six
