President's Rule in Manipur extended by 6 months
The Parliament on Tuesday approved a statutory resolution to extend President's Rule in Manipur by six months beyond August 13. Lok Sabha had approved the resolution last week while Rajya Sabha approved it today with a voice vote. Union Minister Nityanand Rai said that since imposition of President's Rule, only one incident of violence took place in the state.

US is on precipice of recession, says top American economist
Top American economist Mark Zandi, currently chief economist at Moody's, said US is "on precipice of recession". "Consumer spending has flatlined, construction and manufacturing are contracting and employment is set to fall," Zandi said. He blamed "increasing US tariffs and highly restrictive immigration policy" for the country nearing recession, saying tariffs are cutting into US firms' profits.
