The relationship between the NSCN-K and ULFA-I began in the early 80s within the United Base Area in Naga-inhabited regions of Myanmar. Both NSCN-K and ULFA-I were founding members of the now defunct Indo-Burma Revolutionary Front (IBRF), and later, key founding members of the United National Liberation Front of WESEA (UNLFW). This larger revolutionary alliance formed under the visionary leadership of the late NSCN Chairman, Baba Khaplang, was established in collaboration with other Fraternal Revolutionary Organizations from the WESEA (Western South East Asia) region, united by a shared aspiration i.e. the attainment of sovereignty.
The bond between the Nagas and Assamese people is a deep-rooted relationship, nurtured over the course of a thousand years. The solidarity fostered by late Baba Khaplang and the leadership of ULFA-I is one that is expected to endure for generations to come.
Photographs:
The accompanying photographs feature the late NSCN Chairman Baba S.S. Khaplang, Gen. Paresh Baruah Commander-in-Chief, ULFA-I, and Maj. Gen. Ang Mai of the Naga Army. The final photograph was taken in 2017 at Taka.
