No hate but I should really put out a reader’s compendium for those that use “this reads like a fanfiction” while not having read a fanfiction since they were like 14

It shall contain the following items:
• A sampler of very good fanfictions
• books that read as fanfics and that’s a very good thing
• books that read as fanfics and that’s not a good thing at all

I’m not saying fanfiction are as good as published books. I’m not saying they are inherently worse, either. They are two different mediums that function in different ways. Sometimes they have overlapping characteristics, true, but they should in no way treated as belonging to the same category.
