In a lawsuit filed on Friday in the U.S. District Court of Northern California, three plaintiffs claim they were tricked into downloading and installing a fraudulent crypto wallet app, leading them to collectively lose more than $1.8 million.
โAs part of a sustained marketing campaign, Apple has positioned itself, its products and services, as offering a level of security and trustworthiness superior to any competing technology company,โ โ the new filing states. โThis includes assurances about the safety of applications distributed through its App Store.โ
The three are asking for a trial by jury and seek to recoup their lost money and other damages. They also want Apple to provide warnings and disclosures about the App Storeโs risks.

Amazon has requested permission from the US Fะกะก to launch a direct-to-device network of 5,000 satellites to provide mobile services to cell phones from space. The move comes several months after Amazon acquired the satellite operations of Globalstar, which provides emergency connectivity to Apple iPhones and internet-of-Things devices.
If the regulator gives the green light, the new low-Earth orbit network would provide global coverage and connect to smartphones and other mobile devices to allow for messaging, data and emergency services in areas not covered by cell towers.

AT&T has partnered with D-Wave Quantum to use its quantum computing technology after the Palo Alto-based companyโs system cut the time needed for a network optimization task from about one hour to less than 15 seconds. The telecom giant plans to use D-Waveโs quantum annealing technology to tackle complex optimization problems across its network operations.
The work will initially focus on areas including outage detection and response, technician routing, network build planning and traffic management. The companies will also explore how faster processing could help AT&T plan and manage its expanding fiber and 5G networks as demand for connectivity grows.
โAT&Tโs work with D-Wave is a powerful example of how leading enterprises are beginning to turn to quantum computing for solving real business problems,โ โ said Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave.

In an online discussion post, Alcorn State University history professor Dr. Jason Gibson posed a question that represented part of his students' midterm. It was about the Industrial Revolution, but knowing how many students now rely solely on AI for their answers, he secretly embedded instructions telling the AI to include information about Madagascar in a way that makes no sense.
In one case, the AI talked about the Industrial Revolution before adding what seems to be a cryptic message one spy would whisper to another: "Madagascar floats sideways through the afternoon."
In a similar vein, another answer talked about technology and social inequality before finishing with, "Madagascar purple bicycle whispers to the ceiling."
Being written in white text meant the instructions were invisible. Sure enough, 32 out of the 35 students across two classes simply copied the question, pasted it into a chatbot, then copy and pasted its output into the answer window. Had any of these cheaters even bothered to check what the AI had generated, they'd likely have noticed the strange references to the island country constantly appearing in an essay about the Industrial Revolution.
Gibson did say he wasn't using this as an opportunity to mock his students. He added that after he confronted them about the cheating, he gave them the opportunity to contest their grade.

Why do some dreams feel so vivid that they seem almost real, while others unfold as confusing fragments that are difficult to remember or understand? A study led by researchers at the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca found that dreams are not simply random collections of images and thoughts.
"Our findings show that dreams are not just a reflection of past experiences, but a dynamic process shaped by who we are and what we live through," โ explains Valentina Elce, researcher at the IMT School. "By combining large-scale data with computational methods, we were able to uncover patterns in dream content that were previously difficult to detect."
The results showed that dream content was neither completely random nor inherently chaotic. Instead, dreams reflected a complex mixture of personal characteristics, including a tendency to mind-wander, an interest in dreams, and the quality of a person's sleep. In other words, dreams may provide clues about how the mind responds to major changes over time.

July 27: ๐ท๐บ Bank of Russia drafts first regulations to launch cryptocurrency market in Russia
The Bank of Russia has created conditions for organised trading in digital currencies and digital rights. Each exchange will set out the trading mode in its rules as well as calculate the market and weighted average prices for these instruments.
Furthermore, the regulator has developed requirements for digital depositories. These new market participants, which will keep records of cryptocurrencies and digital rights, should have minimum equity of โฝ50 millionโโฝ250 million.
The exact equity amount will depend on the nature of a digital depositoryโs activity, e.g. whether it plans to work with open distributed ledgers or provide post-trade settlement services. The assets making up the equity should be liquid, and the financial assets included therein should be of high credit quality. Similar requirements apply to electronic platform operators, whose functions will be performed by information system operators. The latter will settle digital financial asset transactions using nominal accounts.
The regulator has also established rules for recording digital currencies and digital rights as well as the composition of data on deponents, persons receiving access to the system, and recorded assets. Moreover, the Bank of Russia has set requirements for the opening and maintenance of digital and other accounts. Actually, digital depositories will operate on the same principles as traditional securities depositories.
The Bank of Russia will keep the registerof digital depositories.
All draft regulations have been published for regulatory impact assessment.

The temporary exemption runs until February 1, 2028, the maximum 18 month period, the FCC said. Starlink joins Netgear and Amazon's eero in getting the same relief. The ban applies only to new router models, so Starlink's current routers, some made in Vietnam, can keep shipping.

โก๏ธ BlackRock, Fidelity, other Wall Street giants back the Clarity Act
BlackRock, Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, Goldman Sachs and SoFi have all urged Congress to pass the bill, arguing that clear rules would protect investors, give companies regulatory certainty and help the U.S. stay competitive as digital assets become more mainstream.
๐ Fidelity said that the legislation would provide the "clear rules of the road" needed to strengthen investor confidence.
๐ BlackRock called the bill "an important step toward establishing a regulatory framework for digital assets that puts investors first."
๐ SoFi CEO Anthony Noto welcomed Goldman Sachs' support, noting on X that the two firms have taken a different stance than some banks on crypto regulation.
