The International Spring School on Acoustics started yesterday in Qingdao, China. The school is organized by the  Faculty of Physics of ITMO University in collaboration with the Qingdao Innovation and Development Center of Harbin Engineering University.

The school began with an enlightening lecture by Professor Yifan Zhu dedicated to the basics of acoustics. Following that, we were honored to have Doctor Yan Kei Chiang share insights on engineering wavefronts using acoustic metasurfaces, paving the way for cutting-edge advancements in the field. Professor Yong Li shared his expertise on sound-absorbing materials.

A bustling career fair also took place, offering students the opportunity to interact with universities and labs representatives, explore potential career paths, and network.

The day concluded with an poster session, where students showcased their research projects and findings. This interactive session not only allowed for peer-to-peer knowledge exchange but also fostered a spirit of collaboration and innovation among participants.

Day 4. Practice, Practice, Practice

Welcome back to the Acoustic School!
On the fourth day, we dove into practical classes where all participants were divided into two tracks: experimental and computational.

In the computational track, participants explored the realm of acoustic simulations through a series of lectures:
- Introduction to acoustic simulations in COMSOL,
- FEM simulations of acoustic scattering and absorption,
- Simulation of underwater acoustic metamaterials and transducers by COMSOL,
- Colorful underwater sound.

Meanwhile, the experimental track participants engaged in hands-on sessions covering such topics as:
- Characterization methods for microphones and speakers,
- Experimental introduction to underwater acoustic metamaterials,
- Experimental investigation of airborne acoustic metamaterials,
- Impedance tube experiment for sound absorption and insulation.
