🟢 The METANANO Summer School will be opened at 9.30 (GMT+8, Moscow time 4.30) by Prof. Yuri Kivshar’s talk on Nonlinear and Chiral Resonant Metaphotonics.

Yuri Kivshar received his PhD degree in 1984 in Kharkov (Ukraine). From 1989 to 1993, he worked at several research centers in the USA and Europe, and in 1993, he moved to Australia, where he established the Nonlinear Physics Center at the Australian National University. His research interests include nonlinear physics, metamaterials, and nanophotonics. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science since 2002, and also a Fellow of Optica (former OSA), APS, SPIE, and IOP. He received many awards for his research, including Lyle Medal (Australia), Lebedev Medal (Russia), The State Prize in Science and Technology (Ukraine), Harrie Massey Medal (UK), Humboldt Research Award (Germany), SPIE Mozi Award (USA), and more recently, 2022 Max Born Award (Optica).

Xuchen Wang “Time-Varying Metasurfaces for Extreme Control of Electromagnetic Waves”
Dr. Wang Xuchen completed his undergraduate studies in Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Master's studies in Zhejiang University in China. After that, he worked as an RF antenna engineer at Huawei. Then, he finished his doctoral study in Aalto University in Finland, under the supervision of Prof. Sergei Tretyakov. Currently, he is working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany in the group of Prof. Carsten Rockshtul. His research interests include metamaterials, metasurfaces, and recently, time-varying metamaterials.

Chao Peng “Principe and Consequence of Topological Charge Manipulation”
Prof. Chao Peng received his BS degree from the Department of Physics, Peking University in 2004, and his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electronics, Peking University in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, he was working at the Department of EE, Kyoto University, supported by a JSPS Fellowship. Prof Peng joined Peking University in 2012, now he is a tenured Associate Professor in the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication System & Networks, School of Electronics, Peking University. His research interests include topological photonics, non-Hermitian photonics, and photonic integration. He had published over 80 peer-reviewed research articles in Science, Nature, Phys. Rev. Lett., and other journals.

Mikhail Petrov “Thermo-Optical Bistability in Resonant Photonic Structures”
Mihail I. Petrov is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Physics, ITMO University. He graduated from Saint-Petersburg Polytechnical University in 2009 and received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Eastern Finland (Joensuu, Finland) and Ioffe Institute of the Russian Academy of Science (St. Petersburg, Russia) in 2013. His research interests include the fields of theoretical nanophotonics, quantum optics, and optical forces and manipulations.

Интересная заметка про выход китайской науки на лидирующие позиции в мире и про то, каков будет дальнейший вектор развития.

В частности, обсуждаются новые реформы, которые смещают акцент с количества на качество публикаций.

"According to the new guidelines, researchers would no longer be evaluated for hiring and promotion decisions on the sheer number of papers they had contributed to. Instead, they would be judged on a limited selection of “representative” articles, preferably including papers published in journals with international influence."

Наша летняя школа METANANO в городе Циндао подошла к концу на прошлой неделе 🙌

Мы хотим поблагодарить всех лекторов, участников школы, организаторов и волонтёров за то, что это мероприятие состоялось. Без вас это было бы невозможно.

В этом году в летней школе приняли участие более 80 студентов из 10 стран. Участники не только посетили лекции ведущих учёных в области нанофотоники и современных материалов для фотоники и оптоэлектроники, но также занимались спортом, хайкингом, каллиграфией и участвовали в экскурсиях по достопримечательностям Циндао.

В рамках школы также прошла постерная сессия. Поздравляем победителей и призеров: Дарью Хмелевскую, Елену Герасимову, Ирину Корякину, Ольгу Кущенко, Ивана Тофтула и Александра Антонова 🎉🎉🎉

Надеемся, что все участники нашей летней школы получили удовольствие от проведённого времени, и с нетерпением ждем новой встречи!
