GloFish tetra is one of the most colourful and unique tetra varieties.

Did you know that GloFish tetras glow in the dark? They appear normal under white light but become fluorescent under blue light or black light.

Their bright coloration and glow help them identify their own kind in the murky waters they live in. Also, these tetras prefer to live and swim in schools. With large numbers of such bright tetras travelling together, they appear like fast-moving light which can confuse their predators. It reduces the tetras’ risk of being caught and eaten.

Do take note that Tetras will temporarily lose their bright glow when they sleep or rest. Tetras’ colours may also fade or appear dull in the absence of light and when they are ill or stressed. This fish is highly sensitive to water quality in their tank. Thus, you have to maintain good water quality.

They often also feel stressed when the water parameters change. Thus, it is often normal for tetras to look dull after a water change. The fish will regain their bright glow after they adjust to the water.

Lastly, parasitic infections and other diseases can also affect the colour and glow of the tetras.
