🔥 4 individuals — Jerry Tong, Zekun Wang, Fei “Frank” Han and Feiyang “Astrid” Ji — have been arrested and charged following a trespassing investigation at 🇨🇦 University of Western Ontario (aka Western University) that led to the seizure of a loaded firearm and the discovery of hazardous chemicals — “numerous precursor substances and finished high explosives” — inside a home near the university campus. All four are currently attending, or are alumni of, Western University.

Tong, the only accused whose address is not in London, Ontario, appeared before a justice of the peace on Feb 3 and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Feb 17.

Han and Ji are both expected to return to court on Feb 10. Han is scheduled to have a bail hearing on that day, while Ji has a scheduled court appearance.
Wang is expected to appear in court on Feb 4.

At ~1:40am on Sat Jan 24, 2026, the London Police Service responded to assist the Western University Special Constable Service in relation to a trespasser in custody. Special Constables arrested the male suspect after a foot pursuit on campus, and officers located a loaded handgun at the scene of the arrest.

Officers determined that a second male had been involved in the trespassing incident, and further investigation led to a residence near Chesham Avenue and Chesham Place. There, officers found hazardous chemicals capable of being used to create explosives, leading to the arrest of two additional individuals connected to the residence.
Technicians with the Explosives Disposal Unit assessed the scene, and the residence was secured. The home has been under police guard since the incident, pending further investigation by the Major Crime Section.

Tong faces 11 charges: 

• Carrying a concealed weapon
• Careless use of a firearm
• Possessing a loaded regulated firearm
• Resisting arrest
• Breaking and entering with intent
• Occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm
• Possessing an explosive substance
• Storing a restricted weapon in a careless manner.
• Possessing a prohibited firearm
• Possessing a loaded firearm at the residence
• Manufacturing a prohibited firearm

Han is charged with:

• Unlawful possession of explosives, including several precursor substances and finished high explosives
• Storing a restricted weapon in a careless manner
• Possessing a prohibited firearm
• Possessing a loaded firearm at the residence
• Manufacturing a prohibited firearm

Wang faces 7 charges:

• Breaking and entering with intent
• Occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm
• Possessing an explosive substance
• Storing a restricted weapon in a careless manner
• Possessing a prohibited firearm
• Possessing a loaded firearm at the residence
• Manufacturing a prohibited firearm

Ji is accused of:

• Unlawful possession of explosives, including several precursor substances and finished high explosives
• Storing a restricted weapon in a careless manner
• Possessing a prohibited firearm
• Possessing a loaded firearm at the residence
• Manufacturing a prohibited firearm

Tong graduated with an engineering degree from Western in 2022.

After completing an undergraduate degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Han continued his education at Western where he pursued a master of engineering. He was an active member of rocketry teams at both schools, participating in the Western Engineering Rocketry Team from 2023-24 and on QRET for 5 years before that. 

Wang is currently on Western's student directory as a graduate student — and convocation programs show that he has graduated with both a master of engineering science and bachelor of science. While doing his undergraduate degree, he spent a year with a research group called the Multiscale Deformation Lab at Western.

Ji is a faculty of science student at Western, set to graduate in 2027.
