Recently I noticed that some people modified Melt Kernel and re-released it. Here I would like to share my thoughts.

First of all, I must say thank you for your love and recognition of Melt Kernel.

Secondly, if you want to re-release Melt Kernel, please follow the following points:

1. If you modify the installation package of Melt Kernel, please indicate the original author (@Pzqqt) and yourself (to avoid misleading users), and explain in detail what changes you made.
2. If you modify the source code of Melt Kernel and recompile it, please indicate the original author (@Pzqqt) and yourself, and open source your modified code under the GPL 3.0 2.0 agreement.
3. Be respectful to me.
4. Do not do anything that damages my reputation or damages user devices (for example: impersonate me and release a fake official version of Melt Kernel, add malicious code, etc.).
5. Under the premise of following the above points, there is no need to ask me for permission. I have a lot of things to do every day, and I don’t want to waste time on this.

At the same time, starting from the next version, I will digitally sign the installation package of Melt Kernel.

31 January 2025 - TLB Flushing Scalability Optimizations

While we are approaching the end of the Linux 6.14 merge window with Linux 6.14-rc1 expected on Sunday, the fun isn't over quite yet... Among other last minute pull requests today were a set of patches to work on better optimizing the TLB flushing scalability for modern Intel and AMD x86_64 processors.

Changelog & Note:
- Too long, see Github Releases page.

About KernelSU:
- Select through the volume keys during the installation process to install the kernel that supports KernelSU.
- If the installer detects that you have installed KernelSU through LKM, there will be no option to ask you whether to select KernelSU.
- Install the KernelSU app v1.0.3 for use with KernelSU.
- We don't recommend using Magisk and KernelSU at the same time. If any problems occur, it's your own responsibility!
- Want to try other unofficial versions of KernelSU (such as MKSU, KernelSU Next)? They all support LKM installation, please install it yourself. If you are asked to select the KMI version during installation, select android12-5.10.

GEICO Insurance Company Developing TuxTape - A New Linux Kernel Livepatching Solution
3 February 2025 - GEICO TuxTape

Red Hat's Kpatch, Oracle's Ksplice, and SUSE's kGraft are the most well known solutions currently for Linux kernel live-patching primarily for applying security patches to running Linux servers. It wasn't on my bingo card for insurance giant GEICO working baking their own Linux kernel live-patching solution, but they announced it this weekend and it will soon be open-source.

Linux 6.15 Looks Like It May Try Again With EXECMEM_ROX Support
4 February 2025 - EXECMEM_ROX

Initially merged back for the Linux 6.13 kernel was EXECMEM_ROX support for module text on x86_64 systems. With this caching of large ROX pages it can help with lowering TLB instruction pressure and enhancing performance. But this EXECMEM_ROX support that was contributed by a Microsoft engineer ended up being reverted in the final days of Linux 6.13. The revert came due to bugs and not having any Linux x86 maintainers signing off on the code. This code has been getting into shape for trying again with the mainline kernel.

Bisecting The Linux 6.14 Performance Regression With System76 Thelio + AMD Threadripper
5 February 2025 - Power Management Woes

Yesterday I showcased Linux 6.14 Git performance worse than Linux 6.13 and 6.12 in a number of multi-threaded workloads. Due to that initial discover being on the lone AMD EPYC Turin 2P server that is always busy running through new benchmarks for future content as well as I am being persistently short on time and constantly under pressure due to the state of the web/ad industry, I didn't expect to get around to digging deeper into the problem in the near-term. But as I ended up being able to reproduce some of the regressions on a System76 Thelio Major workstation at my desk with the still mighty powerful Ryzen Threadripper 7980X, I was able to turn around a quick bisect.
