Job Description
An experienced HARDCORE PYTHON ENGINEER required to code the data pipelines and data science algorithms for 3D simulation platform. You will join an agile team and will work with data scientists and architects to undertake rapid prototyping in both back-end and front-end technologies.
Fully remote working, any location considered however the ideal candidate should be able to partially collaborate during core UK business hours.
18/24 months+ contract position

Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implementation of core algorithms in a GCP environment
Advising the architecture team on implementation best practices
Working with front end developers to deliver optimal solutions to real-time simulation problems.
Participating in code reviews
Coding the data pipelines and data science algorithms for the platform
SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
Significant Python 3.x experience (writing Object Oriented Python code)
Comfortable with working in Linux environmental
Comfortable with working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Experience in building microservices using the Python tooling ecosystem
Desirable, not essential:
Data science exposure will be a plus
Experience of gaming, Unity 3D or simulation platform development will be a plus
Understanding of geospatial data (Openstreetmaps, Mapbox etc) will be a plus
NICE TO HAVE:

Familiar with CI/CD pipelines

Project Title: Cullen Scholarship: Machine Learning assisted detection and prediction of climate change related anomalous events in complex marine systems.
Description: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and strongly motivated graduate to undertake a 4 year PhD as part of collaboration between the Marine and Freshwater Research Centre at GMIT and the Marine Institute. Extreme weather events (i.e. heatwaves) can lead to prolonged anomalies which in turn can trigger events such as harmful algal blooms. This cross-disciplinary project will use machine learning techniques (deep learning) to address challenges that such events present to marine aquaculture. Large quantities of multivariate, heterogeneous ocean and climate sensor data will be combined with external data streams to feed the deep network. Data pulled from different sources will be collated into a database (e.g. Apache Cassandra). The developed deep learning architecture will be tested by comparison with traditional numerical ocean forecast model outputs and applied to early detection systems for extreme marine events across different sites. Once validated the models will be used as the foundation for an early warning system for anomalous events that can be applied, for example, to predict harmful algal blooms. The overall goal of the project is to provide a deep learning pipeline for online short-term prediction of anomalous and/or extreme marine events which may impact the commercial aquaculture sector.

A demonstrated ability to communicate scientific research findings will be viewed favourably.
