β¨ Today, in the assembly hall of Pushkin Institute, the shortlisting for the project "Ambassadors of the Russian Language Abroad" with the support of the Moscow Department of Education and Science has started.
π¬ The candidates for volunteers were addressed by the rector of the Institute Natalia Trukhanovskaya, the program methodologist, the head of the Department of internships of foreign specialists Varvara Filippova, as well as experienced project participants.
π£ All speakers noted: expeditions give valuable experience to volunteers and allow them to take a "test drive" of themselves in the profession of a teacher. Many participants then connect their lives with teaching, psychology, diplomacy and other areas where communication with people is in the foreground.
βπ» From August 10 to 12, more than 100 students of Moscow universities and colleges who have passed the off-class selection from more than 250 applications are to pass face-to-face tests and will fight for the right to become participants of the future expedition to the Pskov region. The trip will take place from August 19 to 26.
π The volunteers will combine the research and educational classes with schoolchildren in the region. The ambassadors will study the works of A.S. Pushkin together with Elmira Afanasyeva, a literary critic and the head of Pushkin's projects at our institute. The participants will present their research works at the Pushkin Readings in 2024.
π We wish all participants good luck in the contest and are waiting for news from the expeditions!

π About the oldest laboratory and a legendary lexicographer
βοΈ Today we tell you about the Laboratory of Philological Research β the oldest scientific unit of the Pushkin Institute. Here they monitor the state of the Russian language, write dictionaries, study language typology and the category of politeness.
π£ We asked Alexandra Olkhovskaya, Head of the Laboratory, to tell us about the achievements of researchers and the legend of Russian lexicography β Valery V. Morkovkin.
π§ The laboratory was set up by the Institute's founder Vitaly G. Kostomarov and Lev A. Novikov, when Pushkin Institute was only a scientific and methodological centre, and the laboratory was a sector of educational lexicography.
π From 1978 to 2016, it was headed by V.V. Morkovkin, the founder of anthropocentric and educational lexicography. Valery Morkovkin believed that a lexicographer should develop a dictionary according to user's needs.
β‘οΈ Under guidance of the scientist, the first dictionary for foreigners was developedβ "Educational dictionary of the compatibility of words of the Russian language" (1978). Another landmark work β "The Lexical basis of the Russian language" (1984) β is a dictionary, a lexical minimum, a manual on vocabulary and a theoretical study. The work is addressed to methodologists of Russian as a foreign language.
π£ An important achievement of V. Morkovkin was the world's first series of intelligible dictionaries of terms of economics, sociology, chemistry, biology and other fields. Thematic dictionaries for students of Russian as a foreign language are the credit that also goes to the scientist.
β¨ The pinnacle of his lexicographic activity is the "Great Universal Dictionary of the Russian Language" (2016). Here you can find information about pronunciation, meaning, grammar of the word, synonyms and antonyms, compatibility, etymology, country background.
π The ideas of Valery Morkovkin now live in the projects of the laboratory β soon we will tell you more about them!
