Should Laity Pray the Breviary or the Rosary? - "Think of it this way: in a time of peace, one might emphasize cultivating the fine arts, but in a time of war, one learns to shoot a gun or build a wall. The arts are nobler, but the fighting and bricklaying are more necessary. As in the rebuilding of Jerusalem after the Exile, so today: we carry a shovel in one hand and a sword in the other (cf. Neh 4:15–20). But we do not neglect what is the greater, or treat it as a thing of little account; we pursue it when and as the Lord gives us the ability." https://onepeterfive.com/should-laity-pray-the-breviary-or-the-rosary/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Onepeterfive+%28OnePeterFive%29

Should Laity Pray the Breviary or the Rosary?
Perhaps this is not your question, but it is a question I have been asked by Catholics as they discerned what forms of vocal prayer to prioritize in their lives. We have a limited amount of time av...

Mozart Requiem - Lacrimosa - Herrwegghe
“Men are often called intelligent wrongly. Intelligent men are not those who are erudite in the sayings and books of the wise men of old, but those who have an intelligent soul and can discriminate between good and evil. They avoid what is sinful and harms the soul; and with deep gratitude to God they resolutely adhere by dint of practice to what is good and benefits the soul. These men alone should truly be cailed intelligent.”

“Oh, if only you could know how harsh the pains of Purgatory are, you would much sooner choose to have all the wars, famines, and plagues of this life come down on you than to remain in those torments of Purgatory.”

In each case, my hopes were crushed; and in each case, I was furious with God. While I did not put all of my hope in those things, I did put some hope in them. However, that is not what the Bible tell us to do. It does not say, “set your hope on the grace,” nor even, “set most of your hope on the grace,” but “set your hopes completely on the grace.” We find ourselves dejected precisely because we have put stakes in things other than God’s grace.

Palestrina: Ad te levavi animam meam

Should the thought of having offended God at some time of our life molest us at death, let us remember that he has protested that he forgets the iniquities of all penitent sinners. If the wicked do penance, — I will not remember all his iniquities (Ezek. xviii, 21).
But you may ask: How can I be secure of having received pardon from God? St. Basil asks the same question: “How can any one be certain that God has forgiven his sins?” “He can be certain of pardon,” answers the Saint, “if he say: I have hated and abhorred iniquity.” (Reg. brev. interr. 12). He who detests sin, can rest secure of having obtained pardon from God The heart of man cannot exist without loving some object; it must love creatures or God. If it loves not creatures, it loves God. And who are they that love God? All who observe his commands. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me (John, xiv, 21).
He then who dies in the observance of the commandments, dies in the love of God; and he that loves fears not. Charity casteth out fear (1 John, iv, 18).
