You will not see anyone who is really striving after his advancement who is not given to spiritual reading. And as to him who neglects it, the fact will soon be observed by his progress.

Of Jesus in the Holy #Eucharist it is written: “This morning my soul is greater than the world since it possesses You, You whom heaven and earth do not contain.”

St. Margaret of Cortona

To #prayer must be added frequent and fervent use of the Sacrament of #Penance which, as a spiritual medicine, purifies and heals us; likewise it is necessary to receive the #Eucharist, which as Our predecessor of happy memory Leo XIII asserted, is the best remedy against #lust. The more pure and chaste is a soul, the more it hungers for this bread, from which it derives strength to resist all temptations to sins of #impurity, and by which it is more intimately united with the Divine Spouse; “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood, abides in me and I in him.”

- Pope Pius XII

16. Always to have recourse to the most holy Mary, that she may obtain for us the love of Jesus Christ.

17. To honor Mary in order to please Jesus Christ.

18. To seek to please Jesus Christ in all your actions.

19. To offer yourself to Jesus Christ to suffer any pain for his love.

20 To be always determined to die rather than commit a willful venial sin.

21. To suffer crosses patiently, saying, “Thus it pleases Jesus Christ.”

22. To renounce your own pleasures for the love of Jesus Christ.

23. To pray as much as possible.

24. To practice all the mortifications that obedience permits.

25. To do all your spiritual exercises as if it were for the last time.

26. To persevere in good works in the time of aridity.

27. Not to do nor yet to leave undone anything through human respect.

28. Not to complain in sickness.

29. To love solitude, to be able to converse alone with Jesus Christ.

34. After committing a fault, not to be discouraged, but to repent and resolve to amend.

35. To do good to those who do evil.

36. To speak well of all, and to excuse the intention when you cannot defend the action.

37. To help your neighbor as much as you can.

38. Neither to say nor to do anything that might vex him. And if you have been wanting in charity, to ask his pardon and speak kindly to him.

39. Always to speak with mildness and in a low tone.

40. To offer to Jesus Christ all the contempt and persecution that you meet with.

41. To look upon [religious] Superiors as the representatives of Jesus Christ.

42. To obey without answering and without repugnance, and not to seek your own satisfaction in anything.

43. To like the lowest employments.

44. To like the poorest things.

45. Not to speak either good or evil of yourself.

46. To humble yourself even towards inferiors.

47. Not to excuse yourself when you are reproved.

48. Not to defend yourself when found fault with.

49. To be silent when you are disquieted.

50. Always to renew your determination of becoming a saint, saying, “My Jesus, I desire to be all Yours, and You must be all mine.”
“The augmentation of #charity,” says St. Augustine, “is the diminution of cupidity: the perfection of charity is its destruction.” The less, then, a Christian desires to indulge passion, the more he will love God; and if he seeks nothing but God, he will then possess perfect charity.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 27th October, is the 54th anniversary of the Abortion Act being passed in the UK. It is also the Vigil of the Feast of Saint Jude, Patron Saint of hopeless cases.

Pro-life organisation The Good Counsel Network, are asking people to join with them on the 27th to pray and fast for the end of abortion and euthanasia. They write:

FASTING
Fast from all food except bread and water for the day, or, fast from a particular food or luxury, e.g. chocolate, alcohol, cigarettes.

Fast from whatever you can, given your state of health etc, but make sure it is something that involves a sacrifice to yourself.

PRAYER
We are asking people to say a Rosary (or an extra Rosary if you say it daily already).

You could also offer an extra effort such as going to Mass (or an extra Mass) on the day, or going to Adoration. You can even pray before a closed tabernacle if Adoration is not available near you.

They can be supported financially at this link.
I see that you can no longer meditate as heretofore, nor picture to yourself the scenes of Our Saviour's Passion; your mind suffers when you try to constrain it; Deo gratias! Act, then, in this way: keep yourself in the presence of God, with a pure and simple consideration of His immense goodness, in a loving silence; rest your spirit in the paternal bosom of your God, and when recollection ceases, recall it gently by a loving short prayer.

Today in greek tradition is feast of protection of theotokos.
The feast was instituted to commemorate the appearance of the Mother of God to Saint Andrew the Fool in Christ in Constantinople in the tenth century. On the night of October 1, 911, Saint Andrew and his disciple Epiphanius were standing in the rear of the Blachernae Church of the Mother of God during an all-night vigil. The Blachernae Palace church was where several of the Virgin Marys relics were kept, including her robe and veil, transferred there from Palestine during the fifth century.

At four a.m. the Most Holy Virgin appeared above the people, holding her veil outstretched as a protective covering for the faithful. She shone with ineffable radiance and was surrounded by a company of apostles, saints, martyrs and virgins. Saint Andrew said to his disciple, Do you see, brother, the Queen and Lady of all praying for the whole world? Epiphanius replied, I see, Father, and am struck with amazement!
Christians, this is what you do on "Halloween": Memento mori.
