Another prime example of why we still need the creeds.

Christians Have Always Opposed Abortion:

Very early, the church condemned abortion (Didache, 2.) The Apostolic Constitutions (canon par. 3) stated,

Thou shalt not slay the child by causing abortion, nor kill that which is begotten; for everything that is shaped, and has received a soul from God, if it be slain, shall be avenged as being unjustly destroyed, Ex. 21:23.

Tertullian (Apologeticus, chap. 9) stated the Christian stand clearly:

To hinder a birth is merely a speedier man-killing; nor does it matter whether you take away a life that is born, or destroy one that is coming to birth. That is a man which is going to be one; you have the fruit already in its seed.

Men Can't Legislate on Abortion?  (Rushdoony's Response)

When a group of young women invaded a New York legislative hearing... ‘What right do you men have to tell us whether we can or cannot have a child?’ shouted one of the women.”

The logic of this position is revealing: the women held that men cannot legislate with respect to childbirth, because they do not experience it. The test of legislative validity in both the law and the lawmakers is thus experience. By this logic, it can be held that good citizens cannot legislate with respect to murder, since the act of murder is outside their experience.

Here's to you, dads. The very image of Christ to your families, working hard every day to protect and to provide.
Cheers.

Every generation which has believed itself to be the last has thus far been woefully wrong.

The statistics are not in your favor, my pessimistic/dispy/premil friends.

Take heart, Christian. God is actively crushing Satan beneath our feet today.

2nd Helvetic Confession I.iii: The Preaching of the Word of God Is the Word of God

Wherefore when this Word of God is now preached in the church by preachers lawfully called, we believe that the very Word of God is proclaimed, and received by the faithful; and that neither any other Word of God is to be invented nor is to be expected from heaven: and that now the Word itself which is preached is to be regarded, not the minister that preaches; for even if he be evil and a sinner, nevertheless the Word of God
still true and good.

2nd Helvetic Confession II.ii: Interpretations of the Holy Fathers

Wherefore we do not despise the interpretations of the holy Greek and Latin fathers, nor reject their disputations and treatises concerning sacred matters as far as they agree with the Scriptures; but we modestly dissent from them when they are
found to set down things differing from, or altogether contrary to, the Scriptures. Neither do we think that we do them any wrong in this matter; seeing that they all, with one consent, will not have their writings equated with the canonical Scriptures, but command us to prove how far they agree or disagree with them, and to accept what is in agreement and to reject what is in disagreement.

Devotionals are just a low-quality, bad theology, mass-produced and Americanized version of Prayer Books.

Bring back the genuine article.

"If I swallow the scientific cosmology as a whole, then not only can I not fit in religion, but I cannot even fit in science. If minds are wholly dependent on brains, and brains on biochemistry, and biochemistry on the meaningless flux of atoms... I cannot understand how the thought of minds should have any more significance than the sound of the wind in trees "

Luther's Smaller Catechism on Holy Baptism:

Q: What does such baptizing with water signify?

A: It signifies that the old Adam in us should, by daily contrition and repentance, be drowned and die with all sins and evil lusts, and, again, a new man daily come forth and arise; who shall live before God in righteousness and purity forever.

Q: Where is this written?

A: St. Paul says Romans, chapter 6 : We are buried with Christ by Baptism into deaththatlike as He was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Fathereven so we also should walk in newness of life.

2nd Helvetic Confession III.ii: God Is Three

Notwithstanding we believe and teach that the same immense, one and indivisible God is in person inseparably and without confusion distinguished as Father, Son and Holy Spirit so, as the Father has begotten the Son from eternity, the Son is begotten by an ineffable generation, and the holy Spirit truly proceeds from them both, and the same from eternity and is to be worshipped with both.

The Basis of Paedo-Baptism & Communion

For those who were baptized when mere infants, God regenerates in childhood or adolescence, occasionally even in old age. Thus the utility of baptism is open to the whole period of life, because the promise contained in it is perpetually in force. And it may sometimes happen that the use of the holy Supper, which, from thoughtlessness or slowness of heart does little good at the time, afterward bears its fruit.
