After static frames, we tried to put together a test video. It was necessary to put a flat drawing in depth and fit a character into it. All this was done in order to find a suitable technique for combining the hand-drawn background and the footage.

How to picture the main character of the book, whom no one has seen except the author himself, but tens of thousands of people around the world know about him and have their own image in mind? It seemed that this task was simply impossible. I remember walking around the city in search of a suitable type, peering into the faces of passers-by, carefully watching their movements. Of course, it was to no avail. Then I realized that I was looking in the wrong place and went to the local theater. It was there that I met the man who became the image of Don Juan in the movie "The Spot". There were many meetings, discussions, script readings. Of course, it is extremely difficult to play the role of a shaman without being one, but we did everything we could at that moment. Time and our intention will show what will happen next.

Как показать главного персонажа книги, которого никто не видел, кроме самого автора, но о нем знают десятки тысяч людей по всему миру и у каждого свой образ в голове? Казалось, что эта задача просто невыполнима. Я помню как ходил по городу в поисках подходящего типажа, всматривался в лица прохожих, внимательно следил за движениями. Само собой это было безрезультатно. Потом я понял, что ищу не там и отправился в местный театр. Именно там я встретил того человека, который стал отображением Дона Хуана в фильме "Пятно". Было много встреч, обсуждений, читок сценария. Безусловно играть роль шамана, не будучи им крайне сложно, но мы сделали все, что могли на тот момент. Что будет дальше покажет время и наше намерение.

From the very beginning, we planned to start our series with the well-known meeting of Carlos and Don Juan at the bus stop in Nogales. Extensive work was carried out: all the books were re-read, all mentioning the bus station, photos of the real bus station and its description were searched in the archives. Then we made a sketch with our artist, and I roughly sketched the layout of the location in 3d. We even filmed the whole episode with the actors! But unfortunately, at that time we did not yet have a ready-made technique for composing shooting material and 3D scenes. Therefore, we postponed this episode for the future and took up the "Spot". It is very likely that we will return to this wonderful scene and do everything right.

С самого начала мы планировали начать наши серии с всем известной встречи Карлоса и Дона Хуана на автобусной остановке в Ногалесе. Была проведена обширная работа: перечитаны все книги, все упоминая про автостанцию, искали в архивах фотографии реальной автостанции и ее описание. Потом с нашей художницей мы сделали эскиз, а я грубо набросал в 3д планировку локации. Мы даже отсняли весь эпизод с актерами! Но к сожалению, на тот момент у нас еще не было готовой техники совмещения съемочного материала и 3Д сцены. Поэтому мы отложили этот эпизод на будущее и взялись за "Пятно". Очень вероятно, что мы еще вернемся к этой замечательной сцене и сделаем все как надо.
