We retired the “Nerdy” personality in March after launching GPT‑5.4. In training, we removed the goblin-affine reward signal and filtered training data containing creature-words, making goblins less likely to over-appear or show up in inappropriate contexts. Unfortunately, GPT‑5.5 started training before we found the root cause of the goblins. When we began testing GPT‑5.5 in Codex, OpenAI employees immediately noticed the strange affinity for goblins, and we added a developer-prompt instruction⁠(opens in a new window) to mitigate. Codex is, after all, quite nerdy.

Помню спор на работе о машинном переводе. Я доказывала, что это дёшево — в том смысле, в каком бывает дёшево всё, что притворяется дорогим. Что бренд, годами выстраивающий собственный голос, не может вдруг заговорить голосом усреднённой вероятности. Что в тексте должны быть ошибки, просторечия, ощущение живого человека за каждым словом — иначе это не текст, а его имитация, причём имитация, которая обманывает в первую очередь того, кто её произвёл.

Меня не слушали. Потому что ИИ быстрее. Потому что ИИ дешевле. Потому что так делают...почти все?

И вот тут-то меня и ударило молнией.

У руководителя жесткость - это про умение принимать решения, а у подчиненного - это уже токсичность и агрессивность. Настойчивость у руководителя - это лидерский скилл, а у нижестоящего – конфликтность и упрямство. Желание спорить за ресурсы у начальников называется стратегическим мышлением, а у нижестоящих - неумением работать в команде.

То есть ловушка в том, что те качества, которые помогают человеку стать руководителем, потом начинают раздражать его в других.
