Bullshit question II. WTF is that. Now it is segment trees.

I am not going to do it tbh. This type of nonsense codeforces style shit - no, thanks. I have enough work to do.
Do not recommend.

0.0.0.0/0 CIDR - what is that, and why?

If you ever configured routing in cloud, or locally on the machine - you have probably seen it.

What is CIDR?
I will do more detailed post later, but this is the most common way of defining BUNCH of IPs in single entry.

How it works?
When working with IP - it is very nice to be able to operate on the bits rather than 4 numbers split by dots.

You have the following format <ip>/<mask>, e.g. 1.2.3.0/24.
What it all means? /24 part is how many leftmost bits you will take for that CIDR (in that case 24 bits / 8 -> first 3 octets of ip: 1.2.3|.X). This helps you to understand whether concrete IP is in that CIDR or not, for example for routing.

e.g. for 1.2.3.0/24
1.2.3.1 & 255.255.255.0 = 1.2.3.0 (TRUE)

1.2.4.1 & 255.255.255.0 = 1.2.4.0 (FALSE)

Now, what the hell is 0.0.0.0/0? why /0?
/0 - means we take ZERO leftmost bits, so no matter what address it is "ANDing" (&) it will give you 0. So it means essentially ANY ADDRESS

Following up my own question I asked myself. Why 0.0.0.0?

Any address /0 (taking ZERO leftmost bits) will give ZERO. So we can as well define it as 1.1.1.1/0 or 1.2.3.4/0??

The thing is that it is enforced by linux kernel for routing table. Linux implement Longest Prefix Match (TRIE) for these CIDRs, and canonically host part should be zeroed: https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9164.html#section-4.3

It means our earlier example 1.2.3.0/24 will be rejected if defined like that 1.2.3.100/24 (however technically still it works)

One of the applications for CIDR and 0.0.0.0/0 is cloud routing table configuration.

As shown on the screenshot:
- 10.0.0.0/16 we have private IPv4 address range that will be routed to locally (within VPC in case of AWS)
- 0.0.0.0/0 for everything else the request will use Internet Gateway Interface (and consequently, usually, will make it to outside internet).

Amazing problem, has 2 patterns, classic, easy to understand one. I do recommend. And it is not really hard

Question: is it only me???

I either only work "just enough to have an update tomorrow", or I go into superman mode 12+ hours a day.

Besides that, I can't perceive work as 8 hours a day of handling a stream of tasks, equally motivated and at equal speed. To be productive, I need to see the chunk of work, work on it till the end, chill a bit, and then start a new one.

However, I know some folks at work who just do their job equally well from 9 to 18, and it seems like it doesn't matter much how and what they get assigned. And they usually stop PRECISELY at 18:00. I cannot do that. If I feel like I want to finish I would work till mental feeling of "okay it is done", then I can come later at work or whatever.

Maybe not all of you know, but I do not support idea of discipline 😆😆 at least the way I understand it.

It might seem I am very disciplined grinder: system design, 800 problems solved on Leetcode, 8 years doing gym so-so consistently, deep-dives into how something works on the fundamental level just to be better engineer.

It was ALL NOT because of discipline. But because of desire, excitement, passion to achieve stuff/title/status, passion to be the person I want to be, but I never really FORCED myself doing much, since I left school.

I truly believe, this way you live a much happier life. Maybe thats why I really value autonomy and my personal time so that I have buffer to rest when I dont want to do something, and push when I feel like it.

Some beta/gamma weak energy. Ahahaha, but yeah, I never claimed I am strong person😆

Let’s see whether this can sustain long term, for now it is 8 years being working well for me.

On Sat - I am gonna have first sparring since 2023. So probably I will get “розбита єбасосіна кабіна» a bit. But let’s see.

It was that meme: “guys’ faces who only join sparring and never show up on regular training”, and they proved the point to me ahhahah

I was not able to solve in reasonable time. The problem is amazing otherwise (except very poor explanation/definition). Definitely recommend. I will work later today on more solutions and understanding of them.
