Hey, I'm software engineer at Microsoft, with 8+ years of experience. Here we are talking about F(M)AANG big tech interviews: leetcode, system design and corpo life.

So, I would say I am pretty bad in that, I never specially prepare for behavioral except AWS first in my life interview cause they are too focused on their LEADERSHIP PRINCIPALS. In general, as I spoke with hiring managers, just don't be red flag: no racist…
I answered "ideally" in abstract situation that I made up a bit, because I never had PERFECT situation for any of those bullshit questions. Like you go and talk to person, and try to agree on approach, learn his point of view, because it might be the case that you are wrong actually. If you believe so - you agree with person - conflict is solved. If you believe that your design is better (not because you are better person, but because it costs less, can be delivered faster, etc) -> then go get this guy and discuss the problem with techlead/manager and let them decide. If you are manager -> try to go with whatever better for the whole team (costs less, can be delivered faster, better use/impact for the team and company, etc).

Sometimes the right answer, if the situation is that you are dealing with asshole -> move the guy to another team (I remember such question asked for Staff role at Microsoft, and it was correct answer, because the guy made everyone else's life a hell)

Again, with this type of answer I was getting offers. Is it correct? was it due to or despite that answer -> I don't know. I'm very bad at it and don't want really to improve as it is boring as fuck, and does not really tell anything to me except cutting out some real red flags (racism, overconfidence, sexism, etc)

Pretty easy interval question, definitely recommended, I have heard from somewhere that "intervals" related question was asked in mongodb.

Fucking LLM. I was trying to dig deeper to DNS and learn the glue records, apex thingy, zones, get the mental model, trace down everything end to end and see actual ips.

This claude fucker and other llm useless crap gang failed to explain me in 4 hours. Just confused me more than I was before. Fucking useless nonsense omg. Yes, they replace us tomorrow, ofc. If this shit cannot explain ME what the fuck is this glue records, ns record, dns zone etc along with end 2 end dns. Believe me random vibe coder would fail to understand as well.

After concurrency article it seems like I will need to do a deep dive into dns😁
Essentially, only after I got ‘dig’ and traced down what is going on, checked bunch of RFCs - I got the understanding and correct mental model.

But… llms yesterday heard a lot of swearing, at some point I switched to swearing in Ukrainian.

Pls thumb up/down, if youd like to see article/video about the internals of DNS and how tf it works under the hood

The picture here is what AI struggled to give me at all costs, circling me here and there, hallucinating and stuff. I just wanted to have glue NS case along with non-glue NS case + some terminology definitions, to see where are these IPs are coming from to connect the dots in my mind, and this AI mfcker couldnt do it, none of them could.

Concurrency appetizers.

Q: if we execute parts of the SQL as marked by comments (this is postgres):

1. What will be the end result (Alice or Bob)?
2. will step 6 be blocked (waiting for Alice update) or no?
3. what Alice' transaction will see in step 4 and Bob's transaction - in step 8?

It is a bit bullshit, it should be marked as hard. I didn't know the answer, some new concepts are there that I have never met.

That vibe after the gym, evening, silence, almost no wind. Love Dublin’s summer. Never too hot, not that rainy as it was during winter, calm.

Amazing problem, good mid, ofc, if it is graph - I like it, I became a bit biased I guess.

Explanation will be tomorrow. This is just for you to see how it would look like and guess, where and which type of locking is there, which data each transaction will see, how read committed vs others levels are affecting it, how the mvvc plays a role here, etc.

If AI rebels to kill humanity, believe me, I will be the first one on the list.

Should I apologise probably? I got like 15% paranoid, feeling like this was human being and I insulted it.

Before that I clearly was sure this thing is harmless, as it is just prediction machine based on prev words without feelings.
