t h e w i n d h a s n e v e r h e a r d m y n a m e .
it'd never stolen it from someone else's lips.
hadn't need to cover ears while someone screams it, laughing.
the only ones that could are long, long gone.
they live their lives out there,
still like their rain instead of sun.
still smoke a pack of cigs and call it fun.
still blast their tailor swifts while no one's watching.

or don't.
how i would know?
who gave me rights to tell what's truth, what's not.
the years have changed me.
not only me, it has to be the way.
it's just the nature of us all, is it?
to grow, to change, evolve of all the things.
throw out old sweaters, change perfumes.
who knows, start liking peppers?
i kinda wish that it was me, who knew.

the only thing i hope for,
that wind still knows your name.
how it had stolen it from me away,
while i had hummed it quietly,
when walking through those same old gates.
can't help but wonder.
does it caress your face,
in same ways it does mine?
is there at least a hair, a trace
of me that touched your cheek?
or does it blow? blow hard into your face, your lungs?
mess up your clothes and makes you cough?
i have no way of knowing. we both know i can't ask.

i wish that if it blows, it's in your back.
a tailwind that inspires, hurries up.
and me? i'll take the gentle touch of it.
we're friends, you know, at least i think so.
still, even though, it doesn't know my name.
