Fans of Helena Hauff's storming Cover Mix from earlier this year will be familiar with Locked Club and Private Persons. She certified Locked Club's 'Baikal Boogie', from 2017 debut EP 'Forever Punk' on Private Persons, as "BANGIN'" when selecting it among her tracklist of ferocious electro.
The balaclava-donning Russian production duo and label are now linking forces again, with a five-track EP titled 'Svoboda' landing on November 9. The title translates as 'Freedom', and refers to the struggle clubland faces to exist in light of governmental attacks. They cite the raids and shutdowns of Outline Festival, Аrma17 and Rabitza in their home country, as well Kiev's Closer, London's fabric and Tbilisi's Bassiani from further afield, as influencing the rallying energy of this EP.
This manifesto of fighting for freedom instils an intensity that surges through the record. The title-track is a blistering mesh of distorted textures, hard-hitting percussion and call-to-arms vocals from Vadim Seleznev, who demands we "value the moment of the rave" among his searing flow.
