In 1935 she joined the left-wing group Contre-Attaque and took part in street-level political activism in Paris. A year later she photographed the full process of Guernica being made in the studio, leaving a rare day-by-day record of how it changed. After the war she pulled back from public life and spent long stretches working quietly in Provence.
