Korean Shamanism, or Muism, involves a ritual called gut 굿, strikingly similar to blót.

An animal is sacrificed to the Gods or spirits, its blood sprinkled to dispel evil spirits. Sometimes the mudang (shaman) will drink the sacrificial blood, inviting the deity to possess them, paint amulets with it, even spit the blood on ritual implements like spirit knives to charge and sacralize them.

Afterwards, the meat is boiled and eaten by the attendants, a form of communion with the deity.

While they have many unique and highly localized ethnic Gods, in terms of belief, worldview and practice, I’m of the opinion that Korean Shamanism may be among the closest religions to Germanic Heathenry.

It’s fascinating how two cultures on opposite ends of Eurasia determined this was the way to commune with their Gods, and in what many call a hypermodern country, one of the most ancient, primal forms of religion persists.
