—> The SC on Tuesday passed a detailed order directing the Centre, States, RBI and telecom authorities to prepare SOPs to curb “digital ar rest” scams.
—> As per National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal against digital arrests have sharply reduced from 1,23,672 in 2024 to 58,249
in 2025
—> Digital arrest is a cyber fraud technique in which criminals psychologically trap a person online, making them believe they are under arrest or investigation and coercing them into transferring money.
—> It is an organised economic crime operated by cross-border syndicates.
—> The court directed the RBI for placing temporary debit holds on mule accounts linked to moneylaundering activity and cyber-enabled fraud.

—> Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026: The Bill proposes to amend sub-section (3) of Section 13 of the present
Act to make provisions of delayed registration more stringent.
—> The amendment would encourage timely reporting of event of birth and death
—> Data on births, deaths and stillbirths are recorded under a continuous and compulsory mechanism known as the Civil Registration System (CRS). It functions under the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India under the Home Ministry.
—> Births and deaths are ordinarily required to be reported within 21 days.
—> If reported more than one year but within two years, it may be registered only with the approval of the DM, SDM, or an Executive Magistrate authorised by the DM.
—> If a birth or death is reported more than two years, it will be registered only on the order of a Judicial Magistrate of the First Class.
