#canadayear - week 43
The end is near

This is the second last post from Canada. I am flying home to Germany on next weeks Sunday.

Matt arrived this week and has been a tremendous help. We cut and stacked wood away, did a lot of wedding, put sticks in for tomatoes, planted and watered plants.

Personally, I invested my free time right now in reviewing quizzes from the quiz contest. I am not sure I will be able to go through all german ones until they close that section, but I am trying. As of this moment, I have played through 99 of 169. So Im on a good way.

I also spend a bit of time developing new features for the chameleon bot, check it out at @thechameleon.
Since my days in Canada are coming to an end, I feel a bit more comfortable getting back to old topics. Right now, I want to remind you to BACK UP everything you mind loosing. Everything important I have is somewhere in my telegram chats at least, a lot on GitHub, and some very important stuff (like my scanned signature!) is on an USB drive while being on two PCs, in my saved message chat and on my phone.

Why I am thinking of this topic? Now, for the first time since the 6 1/2 months my @thechameleon(bot) is running, I started introducing database backups. If anything happened to my server in the meantime, I would not have been able to recover the database and every player would have lost their stats. It is arguably not as important as, I don't know, some sensible banking information. But I personally would have felt pretty bad about it.

Anyway, please back up your files, thank you.

The end is there

Last post from Canada and last post in this series. Sunday evening local time, im on a flight to Europe. Kind of unreal.

Looking back to this year, I am stunned. I had a blast being in Canada. I feel that I grew a bit personally, my English definitely improved a fair amount. I made new friends. Kind of sad that all of this is behind me, but I also really look forward to getting home and seeing my family again.

This week, we cleaned up the chicken and meatbird processing area. We also put on a new roof on the deck outside. There was also a raccoon trying to eat some meatbirds, which we kind of stopped. Fast paced week.

I will send you guys an update when I safely made it on/off the next flights and then, uhm, going back to my usual stuff. I have some longer blog post prepared, look forward to it!
