#canadayear - week 8

Saturday - Sunday: The bit of cold hit me hart, so I kinda fought this off during the weekend, nothing interesting happend there

Monday: general farm tasks, yay \o/

Tuesday: Ellen and Rob went to a doctors appointment, so I had the day for me, I did some little hay movement within the goats area.

Wednesday: Ellen and me took connor with us and went to sidney/victoria in order to get rubber for the boat hatch we replaced.

Thursday: Quite a bit happened. I packed my things, we attached the hatch to boat and we fixed the hot tube. I also traveled over to Victora and booked a room in the Ocean Island Inn youth hostel for a week. They made a nice dinner and had a free beer included, so thats great.

Friday: What a day. In the morning, I met a japanase data scientist, which is a subspecies of programmers. What they are doing is really mind blowing. Then I went to the #FridaysForFuture parade (my first ever), which was way bigger then they though (and organized for). Was a great experience nontheless. The amount of people I met during the evening back in teh hostel is stunning:
• A french woman and an irish guy, travelling together. She learned english here in Canada, he was all over the world so far. They met at a woofing farm somwhere close by.
• A guy from New Zealand, being here for hiking and skiing. Wants to work at a ski resort
• A guy who has his own company, selling stuff made out of bamboo. He was either high or crazy, but great entertainment.
• Jason, a local construction worker who has a problem with his girlfriend and got kicked out of the other youth hostel because of a 21 days max stays per year rule, also got ripped off of 2k dollars at his first construction work here in Victoria. Poor guy.

The evening is not even close to be finished, so lets see who I will talk with as well. Pictures will follow later if I can be bothered to charge my phone.
(short messages for my fellow developers out here, if you are here for my private life (wtf?), just wait for the next post)

Happy #hacktoberfest , guys! If you have no idea what I mean, have a look at it. Its a really great project idea and the perfect opportunity to give the open source projects you use every day something back, Just do it and get yourself a T-Shirt :D
#canadayear - week 9

Saturday: During breakfast, I met the irish guy (Luc) again, also another guy from canada, who is going to spend his weekend here biking. New zealand guy was around as well, not to mention the japanese data scientist.
I also met an indian guy who studies... data science. Seems to be a hot spot for those people.
I went to a start up slam, a lot of young people (nerds) here. I have been to a CCC once, but this was something completely different. I got a free meal though, that was nice.

Sunday: I finally went to the Beacon Hill Park. Very nice area there. I then went back via the coast line, beautiful.
In the evening, I met someone from Wales. Also the indian data scientist was around. The irish guy celebrated his last evening here with a guitar combo with another guest, very nice.

Monday: I wanted to relax from the "exhausting" work, but Chris, a guy from england, dragged luc (the irish guy) and me to an irish pub and we watched a football game. After that, we went to a close park and luc played a bit on his guitar.
In the evening, I had a very nice talk with the bamboo guy (pretty sure constantly high) and someone from Iran who shows other Iranians vancouver and surroundings for a living.

Tuesday: This time I went to the beach just because the weather was nice. I meat Léa, a french girl, and another guy from france, not to mention Paul, a very loud but nice guy from Ottawa. He tried to escape the canadian winter here, as well as I am.

Wednesday: I spend most of the day programming @thechameleonbot, which is now almost ready to be released. On other terms, I met a guy from australian and we played cards together for an hour, that was nice.

Thursday: I am going to a new farm. Which means a two hours bus ride. They are vastly different from the iona farm I came from, three little children, a lot of animals. But I got another german woofer here, which is great. Someone my age, relatable :)

Friday: We did quite some chores, planted cauliflower. We will have to move hay, they have a quad for that here, definitly looking forward to that :D

The photos will be from Victoria, next week from this farm.
