THE GUILLOTINE: on April 25, 1792, the guillotine was introduced in France, used for executions. His blade falls by gravity.

Its inventor is believed to have been the French physician Joseph Guillotin. Similar machines already existed in Germany, England, Italy, Scotland, and Persia, long before the French Revolution.

When Joseph Guillotin installed one on the Place de Grève in Paris, it was called 'louisette' at the time. Only later did this death machine become known as a 'guillotine', thus immortalizing the doctor's last name.
