Back in the mid-1990s, Jelle Zijlstra, who was once the Prime Minister of the Netherlands and also their Finance Minister prior to that, said the following about gold in an interview. He said there would come a day when the debt will be too big, and the interest rates will be too high. And the ONLY way the banks will be able to save themselves (their assets are now devalued by 40-50%) will be to let gold rise to it's natural, market price. (Banks have suppressed the price of gold for decades.) Gold is now a Tier 1 asset and banks, including the Federal Reserve have been purchasing as much gold as they could for the last few years. I think we have reached the time that Jelle Zijlstra referred to, and gold will rise a lot faster to $3000 than in 18 months. Even if it took that long, it's still a good store of wealth.
