The main focus of the AIS is to study the p-adic numbers and the p-adic methods in arithmetic. Topics to be covered in the first 10 days include absolutes values on fields, completeness, construction of the field Q_p of p-adic numbers, p-adic algebraic number theory, and Local-Global Principle. We also some topics (e.g., Class groups, Local Fields, Number Fields, Cyclotomic fields etc.) from the basic Algebraic Number Theory. And in the last 8 days, the construction of p-adic zeta function, Modular Forms, Iwasawa’s construction of P-adic L-functions and the main conjecture of Iwasawa Theory, applications of p-adic numbers, and open problems will be discussed.

Advertisement for the post of Junior Research Fellow in a SERB Project

Applications are invited for the post of Junior Research Fellow (ONE post), as per Fellowship and Qualification mentioned below, in a Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB, a statutory body of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India) sponsored project entitled “Comparative Study of Topological Descriptors Among Some Well-known Antiviral Drugs Used for the Treatment of Covid-19 Patients” (Project Code No.: P-07/1294) sanctioned for a duration of 03 years. The post is temporary and co-terminus with the project.

Monthly Fellowship: Rs. 31,000/- + HRA (as approved by the Funding Agency) for the first two years and Rs. 35,000/- + HRA (as approved by the funding agency) for the third year.
Essential qualifications: Master’s Degree in Mathematics / Computer Science / Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks (equivalent grade), and valid GATE/NET-LS/JRF or equivalent as per the specifications of the funding agency.

Desirable qualifications/experience: Preference will be given to candidates having sound knowledge of Discrete Mathematics and (Chemical) Graph Theory, strong Computer Programming skills, and prior research experience.

Upper Age Limit: 28 years (5 years’ relaxation for SC/ST/Physically Challenged/Female candidates).

All things being equal, SC/ST candidates will be preferred as per GOI rules.

Note: There is a provision for the selected candidate to enroll in the Ph.D. program at the department, as per the University policy.
