recap: my (kind of) terrible experience buying used iphone 14 pros
jan 16th: bought a silver 14 pro for 16,5m vnd ($650) with 87% battery health, after less than half a day, i noticed black marks in the camera
jan 17th: i went to the shop and asked for a replacement, they let me check out a couple of units, 6 out of 7 phones also had black marks, i picked the only good one with 89% battery health in gold
jan 18th: i noticed weird battery drain and glass chipping on that 2nd replacement, so i took it back for another return, this time i was given a purple unit (ew) with some scuffs and 92% battery health, and a 1m vnd ($40) compensation , so far it has been fine, though the speakers don’t get as loud as the last two units, im not as bothered to return again so i’ll probably stick with it
will i buy used iphones again? probably.
will i suggest buying used iphones to anybody else? unlikely.

my friend’s S21 got lines, and replacement screens are ridiculously expensive, so we bought another S21 with blurry cameras for cheap, salvaged the screen + battery and now i have a spare Exynos S21 with my friend’s old screen to play with
we originally intended to give him the 256GB board, but he preferred his old Snapdragon board, plus the fact that the cameras aren’t interchangeable so we only exchanged the screen assembly

a 2025 review of some (still updated) iphones that i used:
iPhone XS: legendary design, okay screen, average cameras, below average battery life, fairly heavy to hold, meh performance, overall 6/10
iPhone 11: dont buy this crap 3/10
iPhone 11 Pro Max: mid design, good screen, slightly above average cameras, decent battery life, nice to hold, okay performance, overall 7/10
iPhone SE 2: ehh design, ew screen, ew cameras, acceptable battery life, very nice to hold, okay performance, suitable as a secondary phone 7/10
iPhone 12 mini: top tier design, okay screen (humongous notch), mid cameras, decent battery for the size but not good, compact but very chonky due to squared edges, 6/10
iPhone 12 Pro Max: good design, slightly above average screen, decent cameras, very good battery (got over 10h sot with new replacement), actually not bad to hold, still kinda chonky, but only worth if you get for a discounted price 7/10
iPhone 13 mini: top tier design, okay screen, a lil bit dim outside, okay-ish cameras, good battery for the size, compact but very chonky due to squared edges (feels than 12 mini due to being slightly thicker), good performance, 7.5/10
iPhone 13: okay design, okay screen, a lil bit dim outside, okay-ish cameras, very good battery life, chonky to hold and is VERY easy to dent, good performance, ram is lacking in 2025, 7/10
iPhone 13 Pro: good design, good screen (subjected to 120hz issues so beware), almost-nice cameras, slightly above mid battery life, good to hold surprisingly, very nice choice if you dont mind notch, 7.5/10
iPhone 14: at this point just buy a 13 and save money 3.5/10
iPhone 14 Pro: same design as 13 Pro but thicker, good screen (dynamic island is up to your preferences), cameras got more details but more prone to overexposing, same battery life as 13 Pro (mid), very top heavy due to new camera hw, 7/10 wait for price drop
iPhone 14 Pro Max: 14 Pro but bigger and heavy as shit, might aswell get 15 Pro for the price 5/10
iPhone 15: just buy a 14 Pro or android for better value 4/10
iPhone 15 Pro: best used pro phone to buy, you get phenomenal performance, fantastic cinema grade cameras, okay battery life, lightweight titanium frame, apple intelligence, my favorite iphone ever, 8/10
iPhone 15 Pro Max: very very good cameras, large and bright display, performance is same as 15 Pro but somehow its more hot, base model is already 256gb, great battery life, but secondhand prices are too high 8/10
iPhone 16: nice colors, photographic styles 2 is really good, actually worth buying now that 15 pro's price has gone up 7.5/10
