iOS 18 and macOS 15 DB2 now has iPhone Mirroring!
Initial observation:
- pretty responsive
- system transition animations are disabled
- audio is automatically routed to the mac
- camera and microphone are disabled, probably because they belong to Continuity Camera feature (and security reasons)
- any customization or changes to personal information is disabled
- iPhone notifies you if the device has entered mirroring mode when you unlock
it seems like the iphone enters a lightly sandboxed environment so that integral privacy stuff get isolated

found a workaround: use Google Wallpapers to set a custom wallpaper, otherwise use the default wallpaper manager to set stock photos or AI generated
so far, there isn’t much impact on battery life as i’ve tested on S20 (AOD goes down to 48hz)
