Can they really not see that this exclusionary attitude WILL come back and bite them?
First it’s men can’t be feminists, then it’s nonbinary people can’t be feminists, then it will be trans women can’t be feminists as we are seeing with the TERF pandemic right now, next thing it’ll be women of color can’t be feminists, then it’ll be white women who are feminine can’t be feminists because they’re adhering to patriarchal values or whatever and so on.
What makes them think they will be safe from the hatred they spread?
Considering they’re a minority and have been a victim of this type of behavior, their naivety becomes even more baffling.

من دردناکترین بخش شنیدن این حرف برام این بود که زنان ترنس خودشون خیلی از این موضوع "فلانی نمیتونه" فمنیست باشه آسیب میبینن.
look at the TERFs ffs. look at JK Rowling, look at her “fans”, just look at the world you live in.

yup, just how white people can be a part of liberating non-white people from racist systems. but they have to listen, and ofc they can’t be leaders. i personally have talked about this in depth in this message:

Feminism is not some type of exclusive elite club or some highschool clique you can throw people in and out of.
You are not the bouncer of feminism. You can’t ID people and tell them oh, you’re nonbinary and you call yourself a feminist? I’ll guess I’ll have to call security on you.
Find something else to make yourself feel special.

saying the oppressors have a place in the movement created to free us from them is ridiculous tbh

okay take trans men as an example, after transitioning (if they choose to transition) chances are they will benefit from a patriarchal system, but have they created the system? have they in any way benefited from it before transitioning? nope. and you’re saying they can’t be feminists either cause they identify as men. now, that’s what i think is ridiculous.

benefiting from a system does not mean you’re an oppressor

yup exactly, but you just said men can’t be feminists so? are trans men less of a man so you’re giving them a pass?

well I guess i meant cis men exclusively, but you also didn’t specify you’re talking about trans men

yes i didn’t bc i think all men can potentially be allies/feminists (the label doesn’t really matter) but you said no man can be a feminist so- anyways, as my friend said let’s focus on the things we agree on.

I think that’s just arguing over semantics at this point. Personally I don’t care if they call themselves allies of feminism or feminists. Can’t see how outcome is different.
And again, will all due respect, I’d rather not argue on this too much. Focusing…

also what does a “pass” mean exactly? you’re saying cis men don’t oppress trans men?

giving them a pass as in “allowing” them to be feminists.

When discussing healthcare access accuracy is key. It seems like the current PR strategy for every other irrelevant celebrity is to make some bold and incorrect statement re: the false victimhood of being asked to include other people. It reeks of privilege, it’s baseless, and it’s harmful.
Medically accurate and gender inclusive language is the bare minimum. Anyone who is actually interested in fighting for bodily autonomy whether it’s via abortion access or affirming care should happily and appropriately include everyone who is impacted by the issue at hand. BUT! That’s how we know that these outrage artists are only in it for themselves and their privilege.
No one is telling us that “we can’t say women,” in fact, I did an entire lesson compelling people to say women because it’s the most inclusive word to use to describe women. The issue arises when we are saying women but instead mean ‘people with a uterus’ or ‘people who menstruate.’ It’s just factually inaccurate to use those terms interchangeably because gender does not equal genitals!
It’s also completely nonsensical to call yourself a feminist while insisting that women = body parts. Like that’s INHERENTLY sexist and anti-feminist.
Gender is an array of mental and behavioral characteristics that relate to, differentiate from, and go beyond understandings of masculinity, femininity, and neutrality. (McLean, Imani, 2021) Gender is assigned based on the appearance of genitals at birth. And that changes over time in many cases. Furthermore, your assigned gender (a guess someone made about you) is no where near the importance of your gender identity (your gender defined by you).
And crucially, as @/ihartericka says: Any gender can have an abortion!
The people who are complaining loudly and wrongly about “having to include people” only care about the false victimhood that privileged people often claim when they are no longer able to exclude others to feel validated.
Once again, it’s about power.
