🎈 How Hot Air Balloons Work (Gas Law Edition)
Imagine you’re riding in a giant flying basket with a colourful balloon above your head. How does this magic work? Physics punya kerja lah!
Step 1: The Fire Show 🔥
The pilot turns on the burner. Whooosh! Flames heat up the air inside the balloon.
Hot air molecules = super excited.
They zip around faster, pushing each other further apart.
This makes the air inside the balloon less dense (lighter) than the cooler air outside.
Step 2: Gas Law in Action 📏
From the formula pV = nRT:
Pressure inside ≈ Pressure outside (because the balloon’s mouth is open).
So, when T goes up, the number of air particles inside per volume goes down → density decreases.
Think of it like this: same balloon, but now with fewer, lighter "air friends" inside.
Step 3: Floaty Magic (Actually Buoyant Force) 🎈
Now Archimedes jumps in:
The cooler outside air is heavier than the hot air inside.
This difference creates an upthrust (a big invisible hand lifting the balloon).
When upthrust > total weight → the balloon floats sky-high! 🚀
Step 4: The Pilot’s Game 🎮
Want to go up? Heat more air → lighter inside.
Want to go down? Let the air cool or release hot air → heavier inside.
It’s literally like controlling a flying elevator made of fire and fabric! 🔥🎈
