What is the principle of the sewing machine?

Two threads: one in the needle and fed from the top, the other in the bobbin below and fed from the same place.

The shuttle mechanism grips the upper thread, pulls it out of the needle, thereby making a loop that wraps around the lower thread; the mechanism, pushing the fabric forward, changes where the needle enters and forms a stitch.

Hooke's Law

Such scales are a clear example of how Hooke's law works☝🏻

According to the law, one kilogram of cherries extends the scales by one division, and two by exactly two, of course. The law states that the force applied to an elastic rod (in our case the spring in the scale) is directly proportional to the elongation of the body.

Why doesn't ice sink?

Nowadays, 5 amorphous varieties and 17 crystalline modifications are known for ice — water in solid aggregate state.

However, in the natural conditions of our planet, water crystals only have one modification — the so-called hexagonal syngony.

Due to this structure, the density of ice is less than that of liquid water, so it doesn't sink.

Diamagnetic levitation 👆🏻

Many people believe that levitation in a magnetic field is the free path of a magnet thrown through space. In fact, this physical process is the overcoming of gravitational forces by an object under the influence of a magnet. The magnetic pressure of the magnetic field is exerted on it.

General Atomics has created the world's largest magnet for the ITER fusion reactor

The dimensions of the central solenoid magnet stir the imagination: it is 17.9 meters high and 42 meters wide, and weighs about 1,000 tons. It took General Atomics (GA) more than 5 years to build it. However, that is only half of it. No less effort is required to transport it to its destination.

According to GA Design Director John Smith, the magnet is powerful enough to lift an aircraft carrier weighing 101,250 tons to a height of nearly two meters.

The moiré effect or moiré pattern

A pattern that appears when two periodic grid patterns are superimposed. The phenomenon is caused by the fact that the repeating elements of the two patterns follow each other with different frequency, overlapping one another or forming gaps.

Partial Vacuum

How it works:
Burning paper heats the air molecules in the bottle, setting them in motion so they begin to repel each other. Some of the air escapes through the gaps between the egg and the neck of the bottle. When the flame goes out, the air molecules cool down and attract each other.

The air from outside the bottle rushes into it, but the egg blocks its path. The pressure of the air molecules outside the bottle is so strong that they literally push the egg inside the bottle.
