1️⃣ Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs):
Its commonly prescribed for urinary tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
2️⃣ Respiratory Infections:
It is used to treat pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinus infections.
3️⃣ Skin and Soft Tissue Infections:
Ciprofloxacin is effective in treating skin infections like cellulitis and infected wounds.
4️⃣ Gastrointestinal Infections:
It’s used for gastroenteritis caused by bacteria like Salmonella, Shigella, and E. coli.
5️⃣ Bone and Joint Infections:
It is sometimes prescribed for osteomyelitis (bone infections).
6️⃣ Other Uses:
Anthrax exposure (post-exposure prophylaxis).
Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate).
Typhoid fever and other systemic infections.

🔹Common Side Effects:
📌Nausea or vomiting.
📌Diarrhea or stomach pain.
📌Headache or dizziness.
📌Rash or itching.
🔹Less Common Side Effects:
📌Tendonitis or tendon rupture (especially in older adults).
📌Changes in taste (metallic or bitter taste).
📌Sleep disturbances (insomnia or vivid dreams).
🔹Serious Side Effects (Rare):
📌Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) with symptoms like swelling, difficulty breathing, or dizziness.
📌Peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage causing numbness or tingling).
📌Severe liver damage with jaundice, dark urine, or abdominal pain.
📌QT interval prolongation, leading to abnormal heart rhythms.

💊Drug Interactions:
💊Antacids (containing aluminum, magnesium, or calcium):
These can reduce ciprofloxacin absorption.
💊Warfarin (blood thinner): Ciprofloxacin can increase the effects of warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding.
💊Corticosteroids: When combined with ciprofloxacin, there is an increased risk of tendon rupture, especially in older adults.
💉Theophylline: Ciprofloxacin can increase theophylline levels, leading to toxic side effects like tremors and heart arrhythmias.
💊Diuretics: Used together, they can increase the risk of low blood potassium levels (hypokalemia), which can lead to heart problems.
🍔Food Interactions:
🧁Dairy products:
While not as significant as with some other antibiotics, large amounts of dairy can reduce the absorption of ciprofloxacin.

🚫 Absolute Contraindications:
Allergy to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones: Individuals allergic to ciprofloxacin should not take it.
⚠️ Relative Contraindications:
⚠️ Tendon disorders:
Ciprofloxacin can increase the risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture, particularly in individuals over 60 or those using corticosteroids.
⚠️ Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Ciprofloxacin should generally be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary, as it may affect the developing fetus or infant.
⚠️ Severe liver or kidney disease: Dose adjustments may be necessary in patients with severe liver or kidney problems.
