We’re excited to announce that we have received an R&D grant from Stellar Development Foundation to start the development of Pendulum - a second-layer blockchain that aims to connect Stellar to the wider DeFi ecosystem by introducing smart contracts to Stellar.

The demo includes:

✅ Transferring funds from Stellar to Pendulum and creating an account on Pendulum
✅ Deploying smart contracts for an automated market maker using Substrate. Creating a liquidity pool of two stablecoins
✅ Swapping 2 assets on the Pendulum testnet using bridge account and transferring funds back to Stellar from Pendulum

The Prototype includes:
✅ Single-node network and Stellar bridge
✅ Stellar bridge that mirrors pre-defined Stellar assets
✅ Automated market maker (AMM) written in the ink! smart contract language

Testnet alpha will include:
- Faucet for Pendulum gas tokens
- Multi-node network
- Decentralized bridge to Stellar that is able to mirror any arbitrary Stellar asset
- Docker image for easy node deployment

Testnet beta will include:
- Fully decentralized and dynamic Stellar bridge
- Governance mechanism
- Integration with the Kusama/Polkadot testnet network(s)

For a successful mainnet launch, the network must be entirely decentralized and robust. The Stellar bridge must support an arbitrary number of nodes, the network must support a certain throughput level, and the governance structures in place. The Pendulum mainnet will integrate with the Polkadot/Kusama ecosystem, which gives access to some of the most exciting opportunities in the DeFi space today.
