The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Du’a is worship itself’. Then the Prophet (saw) recited this verse, ‘Your Lord says: “Call upon Me and I will respond to you. Verily, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell in humiliation” [The Noble Qur’an, 40:60]’. [Tirmidhi]

How should we prepare for du’a?
Alhamdulillah, you can call upon Allah at any time. You can make du’a as soon as you wake up or as you are falling asleep, in public or in private, as a deliberate decision or an instinctive reaction to difficulty. You can also make du’a in any language and for any want or need (as long as you are not asking for something sinful or wishing harm on others).

However, there is a beautiful etiquette (adab) to making du’a which will mentally and spiritually prepare you for this significant worship, in sha Allah.

1: Perform Wudu
2: Face the Qiblah
3: Raise your hands
4:Call upon Allah in a low voice

Imam Ishaq Ibn Rahaway said:

"أصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كانوا لا يشتغلون بالأطعمات شغل أهل زماننا."

The companions of the prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - did not worry as much (about preparing food), like the people of our time do.

The best of you is the one whose goodness is hoped for, and people are safe from his evil.

The best of you are the best to their families,

( *خياركم ألينُكم مناكب في الصلاة* )
The best of you are those whose shoulders are soft in prayer
( Allows another person to be in the same row during prayers with ease)

( *خير الناس من طال عمره وحسن عمله* )
The best of you is he whose life is long and his deeds are good."

( *خير الناس أنفعهم للناس* )
The best people are those who are most beneficial to other people

( *خير الأصحاب عند الله خيركم لصاحبه، وخير الجيران عند الله خيركم لجاره* )
"The companion who is the best to Allah is the one who is best to his companion. And the neighbor that is the best to Allah is the one that is best to his neighbor."
صحيح الأدب المفرد/84

( *خير النَّاس ذو القلب المَخْمُوم واللِّسان الصَّادق* ) قالوا : صدوق اللسان نعرفه ، فما مخموم القلب ؟ قال صلىٰ الله عليه وسلم :
( *هو النقي ، التقي ، لا إثم عليه ، ولا بغي ، ولا غل ، ولا حسد* ) .
“It was said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): ‘Which of the people is best?’ He said: ‘Everyone who is pure of heart and sincere in speech.’ They said: ‘Sincere in speech, we know what this is, but what is pure of heart?’ He said: ‘It is (the heart) that is pious and pure, with no sin, injustice, rancor or envy in it.’”
