Ahlus Sunnah are people of Mercy, following the example of the merciful Messenger of Allah, ﷺ. The people of extremism are people of harshness and cruelty, following the example of their predecessors, the Khawarij. So praise be to Allah for the blessing of the Sunnah.

When You Treat Others Well for Allāh’s Sake: Their Ingratitude and Lack of Appreciation Will Not Hurt You
Sheikh ’Abdurrazzaq Al-Badr ḥafidhahullāh said:
Subḥānallāh! Sincerity to Allāh, the Almighty and Exalted, in one’s deeds is of the utmost importance. When you deal with people in a manner through which you seek closeness to Allāh, then if they fall short in fulfilling your rights, you do not expect any reward from them for the good you have done. Rather, you hope for your reward from Allāh alone.
Thus, you do not become distressed as those do who perform their deeds for the sake of people and not for Allāh, for such a person feels great pain when he does good to others out of personal motives—seeking some benefit or favour from them—only to be met with ingratitude or mistreatment. He is deeply hurt when they turn away from him and respond to his kindness with cruelty.
But the one who deals with others sincerely for the sake of Allāh does not feel such distress when their behaviour changes, for he never expected anything from them in the first place. His deeds are with Allāh, and what is with Allāh is never lost. [As Allāh Almighty says:] “And Allāh does not allow the reward of those who do good to be lost.”
