Imam al-Sa'di رحمه اللّه said in his Tafsir regarding this verse,
"For this reason, since this nation (the Ummah of Muhammad) is the most complete of all nations in intellect, the best in thought, the softest in heart, and the purest in soul…Thus, He said, 'Then We caused to inherit the Book to those We have chosen from among Our servants! (Qur'an 35:32). They are this Ummah (nation) 'some are those who wrong themselves'-through sins that are less than disbelief.
'Some are those who follow a middle course'-restricting themselves to fulfilling what is obligatory and avoiding what is prohibited.
'And some of them are those who are foremost in good deeds'-meaning they hasten towards them and they strive in them, surpassing others. They are those who fulfil the obligatory acts, perform abundant voluntary acts of worship, and avoid both what is prohibited and what is disliked."
O Allah, make us among those whom You have chosen from among Your servants. 🤲🏽

Good Character Starts at Home | Sheikh Sulaymān Ar-Ruhayli hafidhahullah
#13
If someone asks you:
"What is the definition of the word worship?"
Say: Worship is a comprehensive term that includes everything that Allāh loves and is pleased with.
The proof for this is Allāh’s saying:
إِنْ تَكْفُرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْكُمْ وَلا يَرْضَى لِعِبَادِهِ الْكُفْرَ وَإِنْ تَشْكُرُوا يَرْضَهُ لَكُمْ
"If you are ungrateful (by disbelieving), then verily, Allāh is not in need of you. And He does not like disbelief for His servants. But if you are grateful, then He is pleased with you."
Surah Az-Zumar
39:7

Ahmad ibn Hanbal was asked:
بِمَ بَلَغَ القومُ حتّى مُدِحُوا؟
“By what did those righteous people attain such a rank that they were praised?”
He replied:
بالصِّدق.
“By truthfulness.”
Manaqib al-Imam Ahmad (p. 267)
