*BENEFIT: When Does The Last Ten Begin?*

Question:
Some people get confused about when the last ten nights of Ramadan begin. Some think that the night prayers for the last ten nights start on the night of the twentieth of Ramadan. So when do they actually begin, and why do they start on the night of the twenty-first?

Sheikh Sa'd Al-Khathlan:
The last ten nights of Ramadan actually begin on the night of the twenty-first, not on the night of the twentieth. This means that the last ten nights start at sunset on the twentieth day of Ramadan.

The reason is that the twentieth day completes the middle ten days. The first ten days end with the tenth day. Then the eleventh day begins the middle ten days, which continue until the end of the twentieth day. After the sun sets on the twentieth day, the last ten nights of Ramadan begin.

Based on this, countries that started fasting on Wednesday will begin the last ten nights on Monday night (the night before Tuesday), not on Sunday night (the night before Monday), because Sunday night would still be the twentieth night. As we said, the last ten nights begin on the night of the twenty-first. For those who started fasting on Wednesday, the twenty-first night begins at sunset on the coming Monday.

As for countries that began fasting a day later, on Thursday, their last ten nights will begin one day later — on Tuesday night (the night before Wednesday).

How Menstruating Women Can Make The Most of Laylat Al-Qadr

A menstruating woman can still observe Laylat Al-Qadr through other acts of worship besides prayer, such as:
1. Reading Qur’an
2. Remembrance of Allah
3. Seeking forgiveness
4. Supplication
5. Giving charity

Furthermore, Sheikh Fawzan hafidhahullah said:

"A person who is excused, if their intention is good and they would have performed the act of worship if not for the excuse that prevented them, will be rewarded for their intention. This is because the excuse held them back, so Allah—Glorified and Exalted—is the One who rewards them for what they intended. So as long as you intended to perform acts of worship during these ten days—such as praying at night (qiyām and tahajjud)—but an excuse prevented you, and you also intended to read the Qur’an but the excuse of menstruation stopped you from doing so, then Allah سبحانه وتعالى will record for you the reward of what you intended, because you are excused." The Best Prayer You Can Possibly Offer on Laylatul Qadr

The Prophet ﷺ said:
((أفضل الصلاة بعد الفريضة صلاة الليل))
“The best prayer after the obligatory prayer is the night prayer.” [Muslim]

This shows that the obligatory prayers hold greater virtue than voluntary night prayers. Yet many people choose to perform Maghrib and Isha at home, while making a strong effort to attend Taraweeh and Tahajjud in congregation.

Zakāh al-Fiṭr 1447/2026

Narrated by Ibn Umar may Allāh be pleased with him, the Messenger ﷺ ordered for the payment of one Ṣā’* of dates or one Ṣā’ of barley as Zakāh al-Fiṭr on every Muslim slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer the ‘Īd prayer [Al-Bukhārī and Muslim].

The contributions will be used to purchase/distribute rice in Nigeria before Ṣalātul-‘Īd is established in the UK (19th/20th March) InshāAllah.

The cost of rice equivalent to one Ṣā’ is £3. Any surplus monies will be given as sadaqah there in shā Allāh.

The Value of True Brotherhood

Sheikh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli hafidhahullah said:
Part of good companionship is that a person pays attention to the feelings and situations of their friends, keeps their hearts at ease, and avoids anything that could harm the friendship.

So, brothers, it is good manners that if you do something that might be misunderstood, you should explain it to your friends. If you do something for your friend that they might take the wrong way, then clarify it for them. And if you fear it may hurt their feelings, then apologise and explain your reason.

It is also from good manners that if you notice something from your friend that affects your feelings toward them, that you ask them about it politely. This is a high level of good character, and it helps preserve friendship and keep our place in each other’s hearts. The Prophet (peace be upon him), when he noticed a change in As-Sa'b's face, he explained himself and clarified his reason.

So we should take care, brothers, to protect our brotherhood. Brotherhood for the sake of Allah is more valuable than treasures. If there is a friendship upon the Sunnah, they should protect it. If one of them does something and fears it may hurt his brother’s feelings, he should quickly explain himself and reassure him. And if one of us sees something in his brother that affects his heart or lowers his regard for him, he should ask politely until his doubts are cleared and the brotherhood is preserved.

Brothers, true brotherhood for the sake of Allah is a treasure, and it is rare today. Many people say, “I love you for the sake of Allah,” but few are truly sincere. Few have a love in their hearts that is truly for Allah—caring for you and wanting for you what they want for themselves. If you find such a person, hold on to them tightly.

A friend who loves you for the sake of Allah, teaches you, guides you to good, and advises you when you fall short—this is more valuable than any treasure. Hold on to such a friend. Not the one who only makes you laugh and passes time without truly caring about you. If you find a sincere brother who loves you for the sake of Allah, then protect that bond and that brotherhood—this is among the best of character.

Our best outfit is modesty, and our concern should be to adhere to the conditions of hijab on this day as well as any other.

Avoid pictures even Hennah hand pictures. Avoid Hennah & perfumes outside of the home, be mindful of Allāh.
Ask yourself is this acceptable, the manner in which i am leaving my home? & Beware of the traps of Shaytan.

Preserve your Haya and dignity, for the one who obeyed Allāh in Ramadān should strive to obey Him on ‘Eid as well.

clarified below:

It should be noted that this virtue is only attained after completing the whole of Ramadan.
Therefore, if a person has missed fasts from Ramadan to make up, they should fast those first, and then fast six days of Shawwāl.
It is permissible for these six days to be fasted either consecutively or separately, but fasting them consecutively is better, as it reflects hastening toward good deeds and avoids procrastination that could lead to not fasting them at all.

Majmū' Fatāwā wa-Rasā'il (20/17-18)

Al-Hāfidh al-Nawawi ‏رحمه الله
said:

"The scholars have said it is as if one has fasted the whole year because good deeds are multiplied 10 fold, so Ramadād equals 10 months and 6 days (from Shawwal) equals 2 months."

Abu Huraira reported:

The Messenger of Allāh, peace and blessings be upon him said:

“If Allāh wills good for someone, He afflicts him with trials.

It was narrated from Mus’ab bin Sa’d that his father, Sa’d bin Abu Waqqas said:

“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allāh, which people are most severely tested? He said:

"The Prophets, then the next best and the next best.
A person is tested according to his religious commitment. If he is steadfast in his religious commitment, he will be tested more severely and if he is frail in his religious commitment, his test will be according to his commitment. Trials will continue to afflict a person until they leave him walking on the earth with no sin on him."
